I finally did it, I made myself a Peanut Butter & Pickle Sandwich. I had read about this on Jenn’s blog Jenn Cooks and while it kind of grossed me out, it also intrigued me a bit. I wondered, how would a sandwich of this nature taste. And I knew that if I made it I would grill it. For some reason having a crispy grilled sandwich of Peanut Butter & Pickles made sense. So I had Allison pick up my favorite Chunky Peanut Butter (It is a major brand that I love, Jif (no I was not paid to say that)). I also had some pickles from a previous Pulled Pork dinner that I wanted to use.
Oh yeah I kicked it up a notch with some butter because…
… because I made my peanut butter and pickles sandwich a "grilled" one.
Add some chips and a tall glass of milk…
My lunchtime dining concoction is complete and ready to eat!
I’m glad you liked it! I’ll have to try it grilled sometime myself… something tells me the melty peanut butter would kick it up a notch!

Im so about to make this! I’ve had the grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches before but never this….pickles are my all time favorite snack or a meal if I choose so. Thanks for the grill tip!
Samantha,
I hope you enjoy it, post some photos when you make it. Please link back here and let me know how it was.
This looks like an excellent sandwich… and anything with a Jenn Cooks AND an Alton Brown reference is totally okay in my book. I may have to grill me one soon!

I never tried it the other way, for some reason I don;t think I would have liked it as much. But I did like it grilled.
Elle,
I am a huge AB fan. We even met him back in 2003. And I just picked up FOA 2 the river run on DVD. AB is great. You should try the sandwich sometime, it was very good.
So after I got over the nauseous goosebumps reading this post gave me, I’ve come to the conclusion that it may be worth only reading about on blogs..I’m not a brave enough warrior to feast upon such a sandwich! 🙂

The combination sounds wicked gross, but now I want to give it a try. When it comes to food, I’ll pretty much try anything once.
Except for those brain sandwiches…LOL!

I love grilled peanut butter sandwiches, but I haven’t tried the pickles on them yet. I really, really need to. I’ve been meaning to since I saw that post on Jenn’s blog, too.
Love the t-shirt!
You know, I’ve always been surprised how many people get grossed out when they hear “peanut butter & pickle sandwich”. They’re yummy and I could eat them everyday! Right up there with peanut butter and bananas, ooh, and bananas with pizza sauce. ^_^
I know people think my combo of ice cream and mustard is weird, and I admit, yeah it is.

Chica,
I kinda worried about what it would taste like too. I really did but in the end I had to just go for it and I am glad I did. It really was a great combination of flavors. Go for it, awaken the warrior within. The culinary warrior.
Christine,
I won’t lie, It sounded kinda gross to me too, but once I had my first bite those fears were quickly dispelled.
Anna,
Thanks on the shirt front. I had no idea how that last photo was gonna come out either. You just got to try it when you get a chance. It was a tasty sandwich.
Joana,
I had an incident with some strawberry Banana yogurt as a grade schooler and have never gotten over the smell. I am not pretty phobic of bananas all together. So I can see why the thought of bananas and anything would be a stomach turner. Mustard and ice cream, interesting, colorful but maybe not for my palette.
I saw that on Jenn’s blog… but it doesn’t sound like a good combo to me! Although, you look happy enough about it.
Love the Entrecard t-shirt!

I love peanut butter and pickle sandwiches myself, but I never thought of grilling them.
Have you ever tried plain potatoes chips (well, any flavor will do) between to slices of bread and butter? Try it some time!
Love the T-shirt!
Angie,
It didn’t really sound like a great combo to me either I have to admit but I figured I’d try it out because there was something slightly appealing about it.
Got the shirt at Blog World Expo.
Daisey,
They are pretty tasty, but the other sandwich you propose, well I will have to pass, not that appealing to me at all. Glad you like the shirt, got it at Blog World Expo.
Ahh….another convert. : )

Damn Skippy, Oh I meant Jif, Ted.
I got that same recipe from her and made myself one several weeks ago. I thought it sounded pretty good and I really enjoyed it. I’ve had couple since then. Now how did you grill the sandwich without melting the peanut butter? Just recently I microwaved an Uncrustable (peanut butter and honey sandwiches)and the peanut butter melted. It was awful. And I only nuked it for 20 seconds just to warm up the frozen bread.

Ellen, The peanut butter got melty but not runny, you have to watch the bread and not grill it too high or long, just till the bread is golden brown and delicious.
Hmm…still not sure i’m sold on this. I just can’t fathom pickles + peanut butter. To me, they shouldn’t go together. However, I do love them both, just separately so maybe i’ll get up the guts to try it out sometime!

I honestly didn’t think they would be that good either, but I had to try it. Go ahead and try it you will probably like it, at least go for it for the experience.
When I was young ( about a million years ago) I got the Little Witches Cookbook on Halloween. One of the recipes was Pickled Peanut Butter sandwiches. It was the exact way you made them . With the option of grilling them. I haven’t had one for about 20 years but now I am getting a craving.

Leonard,
You should definitely get out and make one. They are delicious. Also you are local to me. I noticed that from your blog. I’m in MA as well.
I will have to try that. It seems a strange combination though.

Thanks Betty, if you think that was cool, do a search on this blog for Fry Sauce and that has a video I put together for a little contest I did. I’m thinking of revisiting the Grilled Peanut Butter and Pickle Sandwich in video form.I just haven’t found the absolute right pickles to make this the best sandwich ever.
