We’ll have Eva speaking Spanish at some point. In addition to the Little Pim iPad app we recently were given a Little Pim DVD. We received the Little Pim Spanish “happy, sad and silly” (DVD 5) to review. Eva and I watched this video together one day and then Eva watched it a few times on her own. We found it easy enough to pop in the DVD player in our bedroom when she comes and wakes up early so she can be entertained and learn a little while we get a little sleep.
A Little about the DVD: “In this Spanish DVD for young kids, join Little Pim and his friends on a journey of emotions. Kids will learn about emotions and feelings – from happiness and love, to sad faces, mad faces, and everything in between. DVD 5 features two new characters, Lola the Elephant and Bob the Bobcat, and introduces 60 Spanish words and phrases kids can use to describe how they are feeling as they giggle along with Little Pim.“
I like how these DVDs have a mix of animation as well as live action examples. The cuts of Little Pim and his friends are cute and Eva likes them. She tries to repeat what she hears after each segment. The DVD moves fast but I think that as she watches it more she’ll start picking up on the queues from the action on screen and start associating that with the words and she’ll begin using the words more. Also with the segments broken out to very short episodes we can work on an episode at a time in a small chunk rather than overwhelm her with a bunch of information that she’s not ready to take in at this time.
If you are interested in a Spanish language series for your pre-schooler the Little Pim series is bright and colorful and fun. It will certainly entertain the kids in your life and you’ll notice them begin to pick up on a whole new language. Couple that with the Little Pim app and help reinforce words and phrases and concepts, the learning can be fun.
