I’ve received two Sky Vipers to play with and review. Opinions of these toys are 100% my own.
When I was at Time to Play this past October I visited the Skyrocket Toys booth and learned about the all new Sky Viper Camera Drone. Now, I’ve had a Sky Viper Drone since February. That Sky Viper was the first generation one that did not have a camera but it did have a foam outer cover that allowed for indoor flight. I never did get to give a proper review of this product and so I was not only surprised but extremely grateful when I was also sent the Sky Viper Camera Drone to review.
I took both of the drones over to Capron Park because there is a large open field where I could fly without fear of power lines and most trees. I still managed to almost lose the green one in a very tall tree. I got it down and was way more careful after that.
Most of my photos were taken one handed while I flew the copter with the other. So I might have a blurry one in here like the one above. The copter was zooming by me and I snapped this photo. I really liked the battery life on the original Sky Viper Drone. I was able to fly about 20 + minutes on the charge and I flew it all over the place and certainly very high.
For the most part I like to fly the drones low so that I can see them and watch them fly. I’m not completely confident in my skills, yet. I do get better with every flight. The Sky Viper Camera Drone had a poor battery life and I am not sure exactly how much the camera played into that. I did have to unplug and re-plug in my battery to keep getting some more juice in order to fly the copter. I also took some video and stills with the copter. (Or at least I thought that I had, when I plugged the copter into my computer the folder was empty.)
I enjoyed flying both copters. I love the idea of the Quadcopter with a video camera and also the ability to capture still images. The controls are very simple for flying the Quadcopter. I also like the original Sky Viper because I can put on the foam cover for indoor use.
From the Skyrocket website regarding the Sky Viper Drone,
Huge 16″ Quadcopter with Onboard Video Camera. Records 30 Minutes of Video (VGA 640×480 Resolution) or Thousand of Pictures. Features 2.4GHz Technology with 6-Axis Gyroscope and Accelerometer. Performs Stunts and Barrel Rolls with Push of a Single Button. Flies More than 100 Feet in the Air…Both Indoors and Outdoors. Includes a Quick-Charge Rechargeable LiPo Battery for Extended Flight. Available Exclusively at Toys R Us. Requires 4 AAA Batteries. Sequel to the 2014 Outdoor Toy of the Year Nominated Copter.
I will continue to fly these quadcopters around and hopefully figure out what I’m doing wrong with the Camera drone to get some videos and stills to share with you.
