When the movie Wonder was being released I wanted to take the kids. This is the exact kind of movie that my kids would like. However, they were not interested, that is until Eva had an assignment at school to read the book. Now, Wonder is all over our home. Eva has even made a schedule for everyone in the house to read the book. Now that the movie is available in our home we are also going to watch it as well.
Wonder, the #1 New York Times bestselling book by R.J. Palacio, and the recent hit movie, and DVD release starring Julia Roberts has inspired millions. Random House Children’s Books looks to continue to use the Wonder property to encourage kids, families, and educators nationwide to #ChooseKind in 2018 with an opt-in pledge, and a motivating consumer products line. There is also an app with daily messages of inspiration. The app is free and on iOS. You can learn more about The Year of Wonder below.

Wonder was created by Palacio after an incident in her own life. She and her two sons, were waiting in line to buy ice cream. Her youngest son, only three years old, noticed a girl with facial abnormalities and started to cry. Fearing his reaction would hurt the girl’s feelings, she left the scene abruptly. “I realized afterward that I had handled the situation terribly,” stated Palacio. “What I wished I had done was to turn the encounter into a teaching moment, showing my kids there was nothing to be afraid of. “It made me wonder what it must be like for that child, facing a world every day that doesn’t know how to face you back.”
Palacio started work on Wonder immediately after the incident. The inspirational story of 10-year old Auggie Pullman, takes readers through a journey faced with many difficulties as he attends private school for the first time after years of being homeschooled.
