Review: Explore the World with Little Passports

Little Passports Suitcase

Eva is curious about other countries and so when I had the chance to review Little Passports World Edition I gladly said, “Yes!” Little Passports is like a pen pal system where kids get letters and postcards from Sam and Sofia the two 10 year old kids who have a magic scooter that an take them anywhere. Little Passports is a subscription based service that sends your child a special country package every month. The package contains a letter from Sam, a postcard, unique souvenirs and stickers as well as activity sheets and an online code for special activities.

But, before you get your monthly country packages you start with the Explorer Kit which contains, a mini-suitcase with a letter from Sam and Sofia, a wall-sized world map, passport to personalize, travel stickers and activity sheet, and a code to Little Passports’ online Boarding Zone. These were a really nice touch. The passport actually has some questions for your child to answer, like what countries they would like to explore and other great questions to spark discussion. The World map is also nice because with each month’s package there is a little sticker pushpin that kids can place on the capital of the country where Sam and Sofia are visiting. The Mini Suitcase is also a fun touch because with each month’s package there is a country sticker to place on the suitcase sort of like those old steamer trunks you see in movies with all the country stickers on them. Eva enjoyed adding the stickers.

Little Passports Suitcase

We received the Explorer Kit as well as the Japan package. The package was nice because it contained a new letter, the activity sheet and the online code plus stickers and even a sushi shaped eraser. But the very fun part of this was an origami kit. I look forward to working on that with Eva.

Little Passports also has a USA version and with that one your child gets two states per month with a USA Discovery Kit, including a letter from Sam and Sofia, a wall-sized USA map, field guide, scratch book, disposable camera and photo scavenger hunt. In subsequent months, kids will receive a travel journal packed with 32 pages of activities themed around two different states, starting with New York and Texas. You can go online and preview these activity books which I think are nice to have and wish that the global kits had activity books like those.

Eva and I took our boarding passes from the Explorers Kit and the Japan kit and played the online games that go with those kits. The games are fun and help kids learn more about the places that are talked about in the kits but they are a little short. I’d like to see those beefed up a bit and I’ve already mentioned that I’d like to see more content about the country in the country kits. Doing this online would probably be more cost effective for the company but making these physical books might be better and more accessible for the kids.

Disclosure: We received the Little Passports Global edition as well as the Japan pack to try out and review. Opinions about the product are 100% my own.

Batman vs. Snake Eyes: Team Up or Fight?

Photo-A-Day #2851

Looking around my desk at work I see that I have a Batman figure and a Snake Eyes figure. It occurs to me that these two guys would make a great pairing. Both are silent fighters. No quippy remarks from either one. Both are imposing figures. Both are skilled in martial arts. Both have more weapons stashed on their respective persons and humanly possible. Both have an affinity for black.

While these two will probably not be teaming up or fighting each other anytime soon it is interesting to think of the possibility of this happening. I was discussing this on Facebook with Andrew Kardon of Mommy’s Busy, Go Ask Daddy. He suggested that this team up would be the quietest one ever. We both thought of the G.I. Joe silent issue (#21 in the original Marvel series in the 80’s and in the IDW series more recently).
