Some of my friends have been out to California to see Disney’s The BFG. I had the opportunity to take the family to see it but Eva wasn’t that interested. I think she’s a bit freaked out about the giants. I’d like to see the movie, it looks beautiful.
The kids loved when I had started reading the book to them. They liked all the silly words that The BFG said and they had fits of giggling laughter. They’ll most likely want to see it when it comes out on video. Sometimes in the theater the sound is just too much for the kids and they get all keyed up. Music certainly intensifies the feelings of suspense and danger. While I don’t think that the movie will be too scary for them, I do think they’d like it better at home.
I have head some really good things said about the movie from my friends. I also know many people who have read the book and love it so much. It wasn’t one of the books that I read when I was a kid but it is one that my kids are enjoying. so I will read them the whole book and then they may be more apt to want to see the movie for themselves. So, we may not see it till video but that doesn’t mean that you can’t go and enjoy this visually beautiful movie. But first take a look at this featurette about the film with Director Steven Spielberg talking about what attracted him to direct Roald Dahl’s classic book:
