Another Day in the Realm

Photo-A-Day #3804

Today we went to King Richard’s Faire. This was the 4th year in a row that we have gone for a visit to the Realm. We were given a family four pack of tickets so that we could go and we also gave away a family four pack of tickets. Our opinions are our own.

Like I said, it was our fourth year at the Faire and each year we have a better and better time of it. It is nice to see the same people again and again as we attend the event. We recalled one past visit where Andrew was crying uncontrollably. I was at the very end of my rope and one of the villages of the realm took a moment to come over and let Andrew play his drum. It was such a special moment that we recall each time we visit. We also enjoy visiting Piers the Purveyor of Pickles. We’ve known him for many years now and even when we are not at the Faire we follow along what is happening in his life.

Carvershire musical

This year we saw a whole bunch of new shows. The musical review that they do each year gets even better. The actors are excellent and the parody songs they sing are always up to date or integral with the new story. This year the story is about a prom and they pull in elements from many different movies including Carrie and Footloose. Eva and Allison watched both parts of the story and Andrew and I got to watch the second half only. I was impressed.

Dexter the Panther and Cat Man

We also got to see the Tiger Show. There was a new group there who handled the big cats. They were from the Great Cats World Park and they were excellent. There was a lot of education to this show and we appreciated that. The kids got to ask questions after the show while two baby Servals played on the stage with Cat Man. Andrew also asked more questions while we watched the baby tigers. We told them about the animals that are at Capron Park Zoo.

Andrew and Eva and their puppets

At one of the booths there were these adorable puppets that were handmade. They were able to be controlled with a long wire and they sit on your shoulder. Well, at the booth you could buy an egg for $5. Then there was a little thing that they did to open the egg and inside you could win something that was at least that amount or more. Andrew won the equivalent value prize in a dragon eye pendant. Eva was the big winner and she won a $25 puppet. Of course, Andrew wanted one of these as well so we ended up buying one for him, too.

The King's Tournament

We also watched the King’s Tournament and I stood along the rail to take some action shots of the knights. It was really fun to be so close to the action and capture some fun images. We also watched some excellent acrobats, two women who worked on long ribbons of fabric and who climbed up into the sky with them and then did all sorts of tricks. The last act that we watched were two sisters who did acrobatic moves with each other. Lots of lifting and contorting their bodies to hold each other up. Some incredible strength and skill could be seen in all four women.
