Photo-A-Day #4573
Playmates Toys sent me the set of six Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Monsters + Mutants figures for free to play with and review. Opinions are my own.
I have to admit, I’ve been wanting to open up these figures for a while but haven’t found the time. Then I watched all the Monsters + Mutants episodes of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Nickelodeon and I knew it was beyond time for me to open these up and talk about them. So, today I decided to do a livestream of me unboxing the figures. I did that and then realized that the sound was not recorded when I made the video. Nobody was watching so there was no way for me to know that there was no sound. I watched it at the end and realized my mistake.
So, I did a second video and this one at least had sound. I had already opened each of the figures and so the video is a bit shorter. No one watched it this time either but that is okay, they might check out out later. Here is the video. Then below that I’ll talk about each figure.
There were six figures made. There were 2 monster hunters (Leo and Raph) and four monsters (Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey). What I don’t understand is that in the cartoon all four Turtles are dressed as Monster Hunters and I really wanted to have a version of Donnie and Mikey in those costumes. They looked great on the cartoon! The guys are never in the monster costumes in the cartoon, though. It would have been funny if they had dressed in those costumes once they went out for Halloween after their adventure was over. That would have worked well and tied into these figures.
My least favorite Turtle is Leo. His Monster Hunter costume is pretty cool. He even has a removable hat. Raph as a monster hunter is also cool. He has a great repeating crossbow that shoots stakes. He also has some garlic and a bowler hat (not removeable).
The guys as monsters are pretty good too. Mikey looks great as the Wolfman. He’s got the outfit very reminiscent of Teen Wolf or I was a Teenage Werewolf which, by the way, were played by Michaels: Michael J. Fox and Michael Landon. Raph is a vampire and he’s got very much a Dracula vibe to him. Leo is the Mummy and this is my least favorite of the four. I don’t get having a cobra wrapped around him and having only one scimitar. It is okay but not the best of the four. My favorite is, of course, Donatello. They did a great job making him Frankenstein’s Monster or Frankendon. From the giant boots to the elongated head and bolt on top of his head he was perfectly cast as this monster. There was a lot of detail on the figure too and he looks awesome. These are fun figures and I had not seen them in any stores until I saw two of them today.
