Photo-A-Day #4700
Our family had the unique opportunity to be invited to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration at Walt Disney World and on board the Disney Dream. This is a conference that we paid to attend. During the Celebration we received experiences and gifts that were beyond the scope of a typical Disney vacation. I will mention those as I discuss them to properly disclose any of those extras. I also have affiliate links in this post.
On our second day of cruising on the Disney Dream we had another beautiful day on the ocean. The ship docked in the port of Nassau but we did not get off the ship. I was in sessions for the morning learning about more things that were coming up from Disney as well as some social media tips and tricks from the social media team at Disney. We also got another session on Disney’s Corporate Citizenship and more of what they do behind the scenes. It was even more tear-filled than the previous session. There are just so many things that Disney does to help communities. Things that are not highly publicized. These things were a complete surprise to me.
We started off the morning having a family breakfast at Cabanas. Allison and the kids went to the pool for a while and then the kids went to the Oceaneers Club while she went to a massage at the spa. I went to the theater to attend the days’ sessions.
One of the speakers was Tom Warburton who is the producer of the upcoming Muppet Babies show. This is a reimagining of the show when I was a kid except the Muppet Babies now look much more like The Muppets instead of simply cartoon depictions of the characters. We even got to see the first episode and it was adorable.
When I found out that one of our speakers would be Ashley Eckstein I was so excited! I’ve been following her since I started watching Star Wars, The Clone Wars. She is the voice of the character, Ahsoka Tano the padawan of Anakin Skywalker. Ashley created a clothing company called Her Universe and is publishing a book called “It’s Your Universe” that is releasing on May 8th. We got advanced copies and I was so excited to have Eva read it. I’ll be reading it as well. I also learned that we’d get a chance to meet Ashley later during the junket opportunities, which the kids and Allison could participate in, too.
After my morning sessions I caught up with Allison at Cabanas to have lunch before we went and picked up the kids to check out all the junkets. There were a bunch of things that we could do during the afternoon and I knew they would be fun for all of us but there would be some major surprises for the kids.
One of the junkets was being able to check out The Oceaneer Club. This area is normally closed to adults to make sure that the kids are protected. The kids get a magic band that allows them to enter the club and then we have to give a special password to take them out. However, during the junket time all the kids moved over to the Oceaneer Lab which is another section of the Oceaneer Club. Children of the conference attendees could be present with them. Eva and Andrew showed us all around the club that they had been enjoying. One section was Andy’s room which was a play area that looked like it was the bedroom of Andy from Toy Story.
Another section of the club was a Star Wars section and the kids could do Jedi training or just pretend to be working the controls of the Millennium Falcon. If I was a kid I’d have loved being able to play in this area. The kids could also eat there and that is where Andrew and Eva had their lunch while Allison and I had some time to ourselves. Other areas were set up to look like Pixie Hollow where kids could do arts and crafts and then they had a whole room of Disney Infinity characters and even a live sized control pad where the kids could play as if they were characters.
We left the Oceaneer Club and headed down to where the Enchanted Garden was located on Deck 2. There the kid met Tom Warburton and got his autograph as he talked to them about Muppet Babies.
In that same area we met up with Kevin and his family again, the only time the kids got to see their kids during the cruise. They had just met Ashley Eckstein and Ashley Taylor. We got in line and were behind the father and daughter that Eva and I had met in Pandora. They rode Flight of Passage with us. The kids chatted all the way up to the front of the line.
when we arrived at the table to meet Ashley and Ashley we were greeted by, “I know you,” by Ashley Eckstein. That morning when I knew that we were going to see her speak I found an old photo of Eva coloring in Ashley’s book, Fangirls: A Coloring Book for Girls That Like Stuff. I had picked this up because I thought it would be the perfect book for Eva who really enjoys a ton of geeky stuff that I like including Star Wars and Harry Potter. I re-posted the photo to Instagram and tagged Ashley in the comments to make sure that she saw it. Ashley was so sweet to the kids. She even called Andrew “Sky Guy” which was her term of endearment to Anakin in The Clone Wars. I almost started crying. Eva also brought some of her drawings to show Ashley Taylor and she was so encouraging to Eva. We took a photo with the two women and then Ashley Eckstein had someone also take a photo of us with her phone. She is really good about connecting with her fans on social media.
while meeting Ashley Eckstein was an incredible highlight of the day, the day wasn’t over and I had a HUGE surprise for the kids. We made our way through the ship to one of the clubs for another junket and this one was with Olivia Rodrigo and Madison Hu of Bizaardvark. The kids absolutely love this show and they were shocked to see their favorite characters outside of the TV. We took a seat up front during the Q&A that they had along with a social media star, Brent Rivera. I had never heard of him before but apparently he makes funny YouTube videos. While the session was going on Andrew asked a question of Paige and Frankie, the character names of the two young women. It is an honest thing that a six-year old is going to do and they giggled a little, their talent manager, however made sure to correct him with their actual names. After the session the kids talked to Oliva and Madison. They asked for autographs and photos and the young women were very gracious and kind to spend some time with the kids.
Tonight’s entertainment was Beauty and the Beast and it was fantastic. We loved it so much. I have no photos of it because there is no photography during the shows, which is good because it takes away for the enjoyment of everyone there. It was nice just to watch and see how beautiful the show was. Everything from costumes to sets and actors was amazing.
Dinner this night was at The Royal Palace. It was also Pirate night and so after the show we changed into our pirate gear. I had picked up pirate costumes for both kids the day after Halloween at Spirit at the closing for the season.
After dinner we went up to the upper decks for the Pirate night celebration. People were in pirate gear of varying degrees. Some had very elaborate costumes while others had pirate bandanas that we actually received in our staterooms.
There was entertainment for pirate night with pirates taking over the ship but Captain Jack sparrow outwitting them and it was capped off with fireworks.
Eva was a little freaked out by the pirates while Andrew was watching with rapt attention. He was excited by all of it. Eva was a bit more timid.
When we returned to our room at the end of the night we were greeted by a monkey made out of one of the towels and wearing Allison’s sunglasses. The towel animals quickly became onne of the things that both kids looked forward to each night.
Our full day on the ship was one with so many fun and exciting experiences.
