Yesterday my email inbox was pinging like crazy with announcements from Netflix. I received no less than six emails with press release information about release date, upcoming shows and more. As part of the Netflix #StreamTeam I’m happy to bring you all sorts of Netflix related information. But rather than a whole bunch of separate posts about what is coming, when things are being released and new things just announced, I’ll do a sport of roundup announcement for you this time around.
For the Younger Kids
The biggest deal announcement for the kids, pre-schoolers specifically but I think that Eva may still enjoy it, is the show Beat Bugs. This show premieres on August 3rd and is a celebration of the songs of The Beatles as done by many different artists. Here is the lineup in order of show appearance which also includes season two. Yes, a second season has already been announced before the first season debut. Here is the trailer and then the listing of artists.

- James Corden: “I’m A Loser”
- Aloe Blacc: “Rain”
- Robbie Williams: “Good Day Sunshine”
- Eddie Vedder: “Magical Mystery Tour”
- Frances: “In My Life”
- The Shins: “The Word”

- Regina Spektor: “And Your Bird Can Sing”
- Jennifer Hudson: “I’ll Follow The Sun”
- Of Monsters and Men: “Eleanor Rigby”

Other hit songs to be featured in the Netflix original series and the soundtracks will include Beat Bugs renditions of Beatles classics like “Help,” “Come Together,” “Penny Lane,” “Yellow Submarine,” “We Can Work it Out,” “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Hello Goodbye” and “Across the Universe,” among others.
If The Beatles weren’t enough amazing music for you then you will truly be blown away to hear that another show is in development that will feature the music of Motown with Smokey Robinson. The untitled Motown project features a fantastical world created by Josh Wakely, who will direct, showrun and produce the series with counsel from Motown legend Smokey Robinson, who has signed on as Executive Music Producer. Each episode of the series will draw inspiration from classics covered by contemporary artists, including hits made famous by the likes of Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson 5, Lionel Richie, The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and many more.
Set to a backdrop of incredible tunes, the untitled Motown project revolves around the visually stunning adventures of a lovable and slightly shy eight year old boy named Ben with an extraordinary artistic ability to bring street-art to life. Ben and his family live in the imaginary city of Motown, based on Detroit and its rich musical heritage. Inspired by the words and melodies of Motown’s classic songs, Ben and his friends Angie and Mickey, along with an amazing cast of enchanting street art characters, discover that creativity is magic as they revive vibrancy to their city and learn life lessons.
There are several other Preschool shows coming to Netflix with additional seasons for some established shows as well. Take a look at this Sizzle Reel of the shows.
For the older Kids and Tweens
I’ve already posted about the upcoming show from DreamWorks called HOME ADVENTURES WITH TIP & OH but I have a couple of clips to share with you as well. The series debuts tomorrow, July 29th.
“Secret Handshake”
Get ready to teach your friends this new Boov Secret Handshake! Don’t worry if you don’t get it on the first try, it wouldn’t be a secret if it were easy!
“The Meaning of True Beauty”
Tip learns that there is more to beauty than just appearances. Watch her discover “True Beauty” in the new series.
While this was not part of my onslaught of press releases I wanted to point out that a second season of Project Mc2 was coming back to Netflix on August 12. You can catch up on the first season in an afternoon as it was only 3 episodes. I hope that the second season may have more episodes to offer, but if not, at least they will have a second season.
Other shows coming for your teens and tweens and bigger kids would be Skylanders Academy and the second season of Voltron: Legendary Defender.
For the Gilmore Girls Fan
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life has been set to debut on November 25th were fans can return to Stars Hollow. Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life includes four 90-minute chapters, each spanning one of the four seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, who executive produces, writes and directs the four 90-minute chapters with Daniel Palladino. The project is from Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
For the Adults
A whole slew of shows are coming that I’m interested in watching. With the teasers coming from San Diego Comic-Con about Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders I’m all sorts of excited. I won’t have to wait too, too long to see at least one of those heroes since Luke Cage is set to debut on September 30th. This will be preceded by a long running series that I enjoy, Longmire set to return on September 23rd. With the amazing cliffhanger from season 4, the first season that was produced by Netflix, we saw a very dangerous situation unfolding. What will happen next is a big mystery.
While there is no specific date for the new series Ozark it was announced that Jason Bateman and Laura Linney will star in this 10 episode 1 hour drama.
