With the release of the Angry Birds Movie the kids were excited to have an Angry Birds themed movie night. Luckily, I was offered the chance to be part of a very special campaign for Walmart Family Mobile. Using our new HTC Desire 530 and the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan we could create that fun Angry Birds Movie night, together. The Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan features Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data which includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE data PLUS a free movie on VUDU (new release rental $7 value) every month per line for $49.88. We were going to need that data for our research. We began watching baking videos, searching Pinterest and reading blog posts to get some ideas to enhance our own creative ideas.
If you are looking for a new phone and family plan that is inexpensive and family friendly then you probably want to pop in to your local Walmart for their latest deal. The latest deal is the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS = Unlimited Talk, Text, Data; 10GB 4G LTE plus a free movie (rental, new release = $7 value) on VUDU every month, per line for $49.88. That is a great deal, especially that free movie each month. We love our VUDU service and have a ROKU TV with the VUDU app on it upstairs for those days or nights when we all snuggle up together to watch movies. We also have a Chromecast for watching VUDU movies together when travelling. Our downstairs SmartTV has VUDU on it so those free VUDU movies each month will be a breeze for family movie nights.
I went in to Walmart and picked up the HTC Desire 530 – for $129.00(*). This is a nice little smartphone that we used to research things for our family movie night. I also picked up the Walmart Family Mobile Starter Kit which for the first time ever the starter kit was on rollback for $19.88 (from $25). This is nice since Walmart Family Mobile bills you later, you only have to pay $19.88 when you sign up.
We had a busy week and so I tasked Allison and Eva with creating the food for our Angry Birds movie night. We had discussed many options and they checked out a bunch of cooking shows themed around Angry Birds for their ideas. Eva wants to be a baker when she grows up, and so she has been consuming so many shows about baking. One of them is centered on all sorts of geeky themed baking projects. So, of course there were some episodes about Angry Birds. Because the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan includes 10GB of 4G LTE data, Eva was able to surf while we drove home from the Cape and watch those Angry Birds themed episodes for ideas. Having an extra phone with 4G LTE and a lot of data helps with those long car rides.
For us, pizza and a movie are no brainers. While we like many things on our pizza our favorite is always pepperoni. This was perfect because Red from Angry Birds and pepperoni are both, well, red. He, of course, is my favorite character. Allison and Eva made the Red Angry Bird themed pizza using large pepperoni pieces for the body, black olives for the eyebrows, fresh mozzarella for the eyes and some cheddar jack cheese for the beak.
We are also trying to be more healthy in the family and so Allison and Eva created an Angry Birds themed salad. I thought that they came up with some great things to represent each Angry Bird. We certainly could do more to be healthy but this is a good start. I think that if you were having an Angry Birds Movie themed dinner and wanted to have a salad bar then this is how you’d want to represent each of the Angry Birds.
Creating an Angry Birds Salad Bar
1. Cherry or Grape Tomatoes for Red
2. A Large Tomato slice for Terrance
3. Sliced carrot sticks for bird beaks
4. Pepperoncinis or mini triangle corn chips to represent Chuck
5. Pumpkin seeds or sliced almonds to represent the Angry Birds eggs
6. Green Peppers or Green Olives to represent the Bad Piggies
7. Black Olives to represent Bomb
8. Mozzarella balls to represent Matilda
9. Blueberries to represent the Hatchlings
10. Croutons for TNT boxes
While being healthy is great, you also want a treat once in a while. So, Allison and Eva also baked some Angry Birds themed cupcakes. They went for the more minimalist approach with these cupcakes. They used candy coated chocolates and fruit candies for beaks and frosting and an upside down chocolate candy and frosting for the bad piggie snouts. They also used a black icing for the eyes. Unfortunately it was super humid where we were so some of the icing ran and we had to keep putting the cupcakes in the fridge.
Allison and Eva got this done on a Saturday which meant that I slept all day and got up in time to go to work. When I got up I took the new HTC Desire 530 to shoot some photos of the food items that Allison and Eva made. We even picked up some Angry Birds toys to go with our theme but decided that, in the spirit of working together like the Angry Birds did to save their eggs, we would donate those toys to Christmas is for Kids, a local charity. That is something that we work together, as a family, to create a large toy donation each year.
With all of our meal ready it was time to have dinner and then watch the Angry Birds movie as a family. Unfortunately, I had to head off to work so I’ll have to catch another showing with the family later in the week. I don’t think that will be a problem since the Angry Birds movie is one of our family favorites.
Dinner was fun. We talked about Angry Birds and how Eva liked using the HTC Desire 530 to search for recipes and ideas. She’s a fan of the phone and I know that very soon we’ll have to make a family decision on a plan that includes a line for Eva. Sooner than I’d like, but since I can’t stop her from growing up at least I can try and make things more affordable for the family. Technology is a huge thing that can cost extra, but it doesn’t have to be super expensive. Luckily with the Family Mobile PLUS Plan which includes Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data and which also includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE plus a free movie on VUDU every month ($7 value) per line for $49.88 we’ll have options. We’ll also have many more family movie nights.
If you want to get started with Walmart Family Mobile you can head into Walmart and look for the Walmart Family Mobile Angry Birds display like the one at the top of this post. There is also a specific Angry Birds display where you can scan the Angry Birds Code on the display to unlock a selfie augmented reality experience with the Hatchlings. While that is fun, saving money is more fun and you can do that with the Walmart Family Mobile plans. If you have questions then you can check out the Walmart Family Mobile Hub online. If you are more of a face to face type person then you can use the hub to find out when there is an in-store event near you to meet with a Walmart Family Mobile rep. The event will have a code that you can scan to receive a free power up for the Endless Runner Game on the Angry Birds Action! app.
What will you do with all that data?

What a fun movie night you had planned! I love how you’ll donate the toys come holiday time. The pizza was awesome, too! So fun!
Thank you Stephanie!
We really had some fun with this one. Our donation is a big deal come December. We try and make it bigger each year.
Wal-Mart really has some great deals, huh? Last night I prepared homemade Pizza with Angry birds theme. The pizza definitely had the “wow” effect on my kids. Bubbles gasped and called it a masterpiece (which might be a stretch, but I’ll take it!). Even my husband was impressed with how it turned out.
Thanks for great article.
