Andrew’s First “Farm Day”

Cowboy Andrew

Today was Andrew’s very first “Farm Day” at school. I had been looking forward to this day ever since he started his 3 year old class. Farm Day was so much fun when Eva was at the school and I knew Andrew would love it, too. The kids start their day with a country breakfast of orange juice, sausage and biscuits. We volunteered to make the biscuits and got those done right before we left the house so that they were still hot for the kids to enjoy.

So, the kids have the morning for the breakfast and other things and the parents can come back about 45 minutes later. So while I waited I got a coffee from Honey Dew and came back to the parking lot and recorded a Periscope. Periscope is something that I learned about at IZEAFest and since then I’ve been doing one every day. The one I did from the car was basically an introduction to who I am. You can watch it below.

I’m not thrilled with recording vertically but Katch.me doesn’t save the horizontal recordings very well. Or maybe I screwed one up. I may try it the regular way next time.

Around 9:45 I got out of the car and went into the school. All the parents went with the kids upstairs to the big hall. It had rained overnight and so the Farm Day activities had o be inside. It wasn’t raining so the kids got to do pony rides and a little petting zoo as well. Andrew enjoyed riding Marvin the pony. And while he wouldn’t wear my cowboy hat on the first ride I did sneak it onto his head for the second ride and he kept it on. Kids could also climb on a tractor, decorate pumpkins and make farm animal masks. Andrew went all over the place for about and hour and then it was time to head back downstairs for another surprise.

We got downstairs and there was a cow shaped pinata. The kids were very excited about this and they were all talking about what was inside. Andrew speculated that there were lollipops and candy canes. Once the kids got settled they took turns taking three whacks at the pinata. I captured Andrew’s attempt using the high speed shooting and Google made this gif below.

Look at that one handed slam that Andrew does for his last swat at the cow. That is pretty much what I did but I was standing above it and ripped it right off the rope. He’s got the right form and I think eventually he’ll be able to one hand slam a pinata some day.

We finished out the day with the kids performing a little dance and song. It was very cute and I recorded that for the family.
