My newest app tester is my son Andrew. We received a download code for the new app, Cookie Monster’s Challenge to play with and test. Opinions of the app are 100% my own. Andrew is a fan of this game and has been playing it often. The app holds his interest and is exciting for him each time. The app was created to get pre-schoolers back into the swing of school. Andrew won’t be seeing school for another year but it is a good primer for him.
One of the lessons that Cookie Monster is used for to teach is that of impulse control. When I was a kid Cookie Monster tore through plates and plates of cookies in a wanton manner. Now, he has to be responsible. Poor Cookie. Sure, he still gets his cookies but now he has to wait for them patiently. Great lessons that kids need to learn but bad break for a Cookie Monster. In the app kids do a bunch of mini games to help assemble a Rube Goldberg sort of machine to deliver a cookie to Cookie Monster.
One of the best games that is so funny to watch Andrew play is “Don’t Touch Pig”. To teach kids patience they get a screen where a pig walks across. Cookie tells the kids “Don’t Touch Pig” and they lose the game if they touch the pig. Do you know how hard it is for a 3 year old not to touch something when you tell them not to touch something? It is very hard. Eventually the pig walks off he screen or Cookie tells the child to touch the pig. There ae many other games as are detailed below but overall it is a fun app that my son has enjoyed playing.
Kids can join Cookie Monster as they head back to school with a new app from PBS KIDS and SESAME STREET – Cookie Monster’s Challenge. This marks the first time the two children’s media organizations have collaborated on a mobile project. The app, a mix of whimsy and education to help kids ages 3-5 get back into the school mindset, launches just in time for the debut of SESAME STREET’s 45th season, which premieres September 15 on PBS KIDS (check local listings).
Available for iPad for $2.99, Cookie Monster’s Challenge offers a series of brain-building games that encourage self-control, focus, memory, following directions and problem solving. App features include:
- Ten mini games – Each game presents an exciting challenge designed to give children the opportunity to practice self-control, focus, and memory.
- Nine Levels – With each level the mini games get more challenging, keeping children engaged and motivated.
- One Crazy Cookie Making Contraption – As children beat levels they earn pieces of a giant and hilarious cookie-making machine. Children can use the machine to decorate and deliver the cookies they’ve earned to their hungry friend Cookie Monster.
- Profiles – Children and parents can create up to three separate profiles so that everyone in the family can progress through the game at their own pace.
