Leap of Faith

Our adventures in Kentucky continue. Today we started the morning off slowly but made our way over to visit the Purrfect Day Cat Cafe. This is a place where you can go and visit with cats that are in need of adoption. You can also get snacks and drinks there as well. You can take the drinks in with you but not the snacks. I know this because I got a bag of their popcorn but couldn’t eat it until after.

Andrew in Love

There is a large open room that has big windows looking out at the street. There people can see you playing with all of the kittens. We were int he kitten room. Both of the kids loved playing with the 22 little kittens that were inside. This model has really been working for adoptions. They have over 1,100 since 2018. They have also raised a bunch of money for the Kentucky Humane Society from the tips alone.

Eva in Heaven

My sister helps out there by picking up the cats and driving them to the cafe. She’s been doing this for a while and really enjoys it. We all had a lot of fun playing with the little kittens. I had to keep remembering to watch my feet because they were everywhere.

Today were were also able to get some time in at the pool. It is a huge pool at their location and it was filled with so many kids. Our kids had a fun time and it was nice to get in and enjoy the cool water. That came in handy because it was a very warm sunny day.

Family at Fox Hollow Farms

tonight we went to Fox Hollow Farms to see a concert, have dinner from Food trucks and enjoy being outside. Eva and Andrew had a lot of fun. Eva enjoying the much and food. Andrew, by making friends and playing games with several kids his age. There were so many kids there. Andrew fell right in with them and had fun running around and chasing after them. It was a great night and we got out of there in time to avoid the major rainfall.

On our second day of vacation Tara brought up to Hi-Five Doughnuts for breakfast. This place was very cool. As with most places we visited not only did they have their storefront location but they also had a food truck. One of the things that Hi-Five Doughnuts does it they do make your own donuts. Well, they make the donut but you get to choose the glaze and toppings. They also had a variety of specialty fresh doughnuts that were already made. I selected a Homer donut, Allison one with bourbon and popcorn, Eva a Reese’s Peanut Butter one and Andrew did make your own with a bacon glaze and sprinkles. They were all very good.

Our Hi-Five Doughnuts

We left Hi-Five and then went searching for the Idlewild Butterfly Farm. This was a very cool place. We took a tour and got to hold all sorts of insects and learn about them. We also were able to see the butterflies that were being raised. We all liked the Prickly Leaf Insect because it did some adorable things with its hands. You can see in the video below.

I thought that there would have been more butterflies but we may not have been there at the peak time. There were certainly a bunch of cocoons that were being hatched but not as many butterflies in the outside enclosure.

Monarch Butterfly

After the butterfly farm we went in search of the grave of Col. Harland Sanders. Eva had done a paper or research on things to do in Louisville, Kentucky. One of those things was to visit that particular grave. So we did. We also learned that many famous people were in that cemetery including the woman who created the Happy Birthday son and Muhammad Ali.
