Mankind Is No Island

My friend Mo sent me a link to Pop Candy regarding a blog post about the film above. She read the title and thought the article was about me, nope but it is pretty cool anyway. This was the winning film at Tropfest this year. I had no idea what Tropfest is but apparently it is a short film festival/competition where the winner gets a trip to Sydney Australia and $20,000. The winning film above was shot entirely on a cell phone and cost $57.00. It is much better than my winning piece for the Nokia Productions Movie but give me more than one day to work on something and I’ll show you what I can do. I subscribed to the Tropfest newsletter so maybe I will enter next year. I’ve always wanted to go to Australia.

Would you like to play a game…

With that simple innocuous question came a world of hurt for David Lightman, Matthew Broderick’s character in the 80s movie WarGames“>Wargames. I can hardly imagine that it has been 25 years since that movie came out. It is now a classic, literally 25 year old is a classic. The movie is going to be back on the Big Screen for one night only, Thursday, July 24th. If you go you are not only going to see the original movie but also interviews with cast and crew, and that means Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy. Not only those great features but you will be the first to get a sneak peak at sequel – WarGames: The Dead Code.

I grew up in the 80s and 1985 was the best year ever for movies, in my opinion. For one thing you have Back to the Future, the highest grossing movie of 1985. This was so groundbreaking and innovative, it brought time travel to the masses in a hip and fun way. Spielberg created a world of color, humor and fun that has yet to be duplicated in my opinion. And lets face it even though the Delorean was a failure as a car it is just so dang cool to watch. And what little kid didn’t dream of owning one. This movie above all others from the 80s should get its time to shine back on the big screen. Now that would be an event especially if it could be tied to a charitable fundraiser for the Michael J. Fox foundation.
