Today we had a family movie day. We received a couple of passes to see the new My Little Pony Equestria Girls movie called Rainbow Rocks. This is the sequel to My Little Pony: Equestria Girls. In the first Equestria Girls movie Twilight Sparkle leaves Equestria and travels to an alternate dimension where she becomes a human girl and brings together that world’s Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie and Apple Jack to stop a bad pony who was banished to this dimension. That pony was known as Sunset Shimmer and she was a student of Princess Celestia before Twilight Sparkle. The friends came together and stopped her and showed her the magic of friendship.
In Rainbow Rocks there are three other banished beings (not necessarily ponies) who are trying to gain Equestria Magic to get back into power. They feed on negative energy and target Canterlot High to get that negative energy. The only people who are immune to their “siren song” are the five new friends and a now reformed Sunset Shimmer. Sunset Shimmer is truly trying to be a good person and she’s become friends the five girls who have formed a band called the Rain Booms. Rainbow Dash started he band so she named it the Rain Booms. Here’s a clip.
The theater had a really fun and happy vibe to it. There was a large group of Bronies (male fans of My Little Pony, there are varying degrees of Broniness). These guys were way into My Little Pony, so much so that they were singing songs from the show and from the first Equestria Girls movie. We had a great time with these folks, they were very spirited. If only they would have shut it down a little more while the movie was on, it wasn’t too bad but they were shushed a few times.
Andrew and Eva loved the movie. Andrew was dancing around and Eva was super excited both before and after. Right after she asked me if we can get the DVD. She can’t wait to see it again. That is a ringing endorsement of the movie from the kids. We’re also planning on re-watching the whole series again.
After the movie we went out to Outback for early dinner/late lunch. Than I went to work and tried to sleep for another 3 hours before work started. There was no point in returning home just to return to work. This weekend is a rough one for sleep, but it was worth it to go to the movies with the family.
