This month’s #StreamTeam post is all about Halloween. If you haven’t searched yet, Netflix has a ton of Halloween programming. Because I am part of the Netflix #Streamteam I receive a subscription to Netflix and a yearly gift as compensation. However, my thoughts and opinions regarding Netflix and their programming are 100% my own.
Halloween is a week away and are you ready? I’m not asking about having Halloween candy on hand. How many times did you have to buy more because you already ate it already? I’m not talking about costumes. I’m talking about watching some great programming on Netflix before you and your little monsters take to the streets asking for Candy. I’ve been looking through the offerings for family movies and shows with Halloween themes and there are some great ones. It may be time to finally introduce the kids to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, intense and scary in parts but such a great message of friendship and love, plus it is set during Halloween. I think Eva would freak out when she sees the kid dressed as Yoda. Now, if Allison and I want to have the feel of the nostalgia of movies like E.T. and the Goonies then we should finally watch Stranger Things together. That is a perfect series for a Halloween Binge-fest!
There are so many Halloween entertainment options for ghosts and ghouls of all ages. Here are a few suggestions for you.
For the Ankle Biting Pre-Schoolers
Room on the Broom – A gentle witch with a ginger braid offers rides to a variety of animals on her increasingly crowded broom, much to her grumpy cat’s chagrin.
Masha’s Spooky Storiess – Loveable but rambunctious Masha tells tales of spookiness with adorable twists.
DreamWorks Spooky Stories – Shrek dares his friends to tell him spooky stories while in a haunted castle. |
For the Ghoulish Grade Schoolers
Scooby-Doo!: Mystery Incorporated – The whole Scooby gang try to solve mysteries and stay one step ahead of ghosts, monsters and ghouls.

For the Zombie Pre-Teen Army
Girl Vs Monster – Teenager Skylar Lewis discovers that her parents have a secret avocation when she innocently releases a cache of monsters in the family basement.
Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie – After arguing with her mom, teen wizard Alex Russo wishes aloud that her parents had never met – only to be shocked when that wish turns into reality.
Goosebumps – R.L. Stine’s tales take on a life of their own in a series that combines original stories with adaptations from the Goosebumps series of books.
R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour – R.L. Stine leads young viewers on a creepy tour of tales featuring life-sized dolls, werewolves and carnival clowns that are stalking children. |
There are a ton of other great titles for adults and teens alike. The classic series Buffy the Vampire Slayer that takes the traditional horror movie pretty blond victim and makes her the butt kicking hero is a great one to enjoy. There was also Angel a story about a vampire with a soul or Charmed a story of three witch sisters. Then there is also Supernatural a show about two brothers who hunt demons and many other otherworldly dangers. If Zombies are more your thing then how about iZombie which is about a Zombie mortician or for something really gritty then there is The Walking Dead, which just had a really tragic season seven opener. Our you could go old school with classics like The Munsters and The Twilight Zone.
No matter what you are looking for there is something on Netflix to enjoy. If you are a crafty parent then you may want to look into these fun DIY Halloween costumes inspired by Netflix shows and movies.
And on a non Halloween note there are some additional shows that I want to mention. I’ll be writing up a full review of Skylanders Academy (Full Season out Oct 28) in a couple of days and Eva has already binged all of season 3 of Project Mc2, she cannot wait for season 4.
While you have to wait until January 20, 2017 to see the next season of Voltron Legendary Defender you can enjoy making some Voltron Pumpkins with these downloadable stencils.
