The fun nostalgia of the Monster Cereals from General Mills has been captured in a fun board game. We were given a review copy of the game Monster Crunch: The Breakfast Battle Game by Big G Creative. The game can be found at Target for $19.99, just in time for Halloween. Our opinions are 100% our own.
Tonight was our first attempt at the game and it had a little learning curve. It took us some time to get everything working in sync but once we did it was an entertaining game to play. The object of the game is to have your monster eat the most cereal. The game can be played with up to 5 players. There once were five breakfast cereal monsters, Franken Berry, Boo Berry, Count Chocula, Fruit Brute and Fruity Yummy Mummy. Over time just the top three came back as cereals and those were Franken Berry, Boo Berry and Count Chocula. I wonder why the other two fell out of favor. But they are all back in this game.
I chose Fruit Brute as my character because I like werewolves most out of the monsters. Eva took Franken Berry, Allison took Boo Berry and Andrew took Count Chocoula. Each character has their own special powers that they can use once per game. These are on Monster Power Placards. They can let you do special moves or cause everyone in the game to do something like only use even numbered cards. You can see how to play the game in the video below.
We had fun playing this game. It is for ages 9 and up but Andrew had no problem keeping up with us. We all ended up having a ton of cereal but Eva came out as the main winner of the game by one point! Allison and I tied and Andrew was only 3 points behind us. There is a bit of strategy to the game and we’ll pick that up the more we play it. A game lasts about 20 minutes or so, too so you can probably get in a coupe couple of games in one family game night.
With Halloween coming up you can certainly incorporate using this game and the actual monster cereals to have a fantastic night of family tabletop gaming.
