An adventure today. Allison, Eva and I went down to the Cape for the 2nd Annual Wing Fling to Benefit the Michael Fernandes Foundation for Bone Marrow Research. I went last year on my own because Allison and Eva were in Florida. Luckily this year they were home so we could go together. We got there but first…
We got a flat tire. This time it was in Allison’s car. We were driving along Route 25 and hit a large pothole. We hit it at a pretty good clip and kept going. No biggie. Then we were going up the Bourne Bridge and the car started shaking like crazy. I knew right away what was happening. We made it up and over the top of the bridge and then coasted down the other side and pulled into the State Police barracks on the other side of the bridge (Cape Side). I called Triple AAA (Because that is why we have it) and we waited.
In the trunk we had a bunch of boxes of our Barefoot Books. Allison and I took them out so we could get out the full size spare. Eva was getting antsy so Allison and Eva sat on the grass and read one of the Barefoot Books (life saver). By the end on of book Triple AAA showed up and had the tire changed and we were back on our way.
The whole flat tire thing was a hassle but not catastrophic. Sure it will set us back because it looks like we’re going to need a new set of tires for Allison’s car too. That means iPhone purchases set back again. But we are lucky that we have an emergency fund to take care of this. We owe that to our working on the Dave Ramsey program Financial Peace.
We arrived at the Wing Fling and got our plates. We were lucky to get there early and grab a table. Allison started with wings from the Amateurs and I started with the Professionals. There were over twenty-two different entries between the two categories. Out of all the wings Eva liked only one or two of them but she enjoyed them very much.
What Eva liked the best was that Auntie Shelby was there working for the Raw Bar. Eva also liked that she could get pretty makeup (face painting). Her face painting actually looked like she was a bird from Rio. We called her Jewel the rest of the day. She was very upset when she had to go to bed because she did not want to wash off her pretty makeup.
The wing fling was very well attended. It was PACKED. My parents arrived a little while into the event and we again were lucky to have a table because trying to manage twenty plus wings of varying flavors and stickiness is difficult enough at a table but having to walk around with a small plate of them is tough. We were also lucky to get there early because by the time we were done our wings we were ready to leave. We were so happy to see so many people there because that means that a lot will be raised for the foundation.
We donated a few Barefoot books to the raffle prizes and made sure that we bought a ticket for the kayak giveaway too. Also a ticket for the 50/50 raffle. We didn’t receive a call saying that we had won but oh well, the great thing about having a kayak is that they last a long time. We could have used the 50/50 money to take care of the flat though. 🙂
After the Wing Fling we went to the cape house and spent some time with my parents. Eva entertained us all. We played Dog Bingo and then headed home later. Eva slept the entire way home. It was so nice for her to get some sleep so Allison and I could chat without a thousand and one questions. I don’t normally mind Eva’s questions but when she asks why after we answer the question the first time it gets frustrating. I know I shouldn’t be frustrated that she is inquisitive but it is like she sometimes gets the “Why” Tourette’s syndrome or something.

Sorry about the tire!! One time I got a flat with Peggy and she was devastated! She cried and cried and told me I broke the car! I had to find a payphone because it was before cell phones…she just yelled at me the entire time we waited for AAA. Classic!
PS-I love the picture of Auntie Shelby and Eva…so cute!!
Mo,
Luckily we were able to make it to a safe place to get it changed. The story about Peggy and the flat is hilarious. she was yelling at you, too funny.
Drew,
That stinks about the tire. Altough it is pretty cool you have a full size spare. I am never ever going to buy another car without a full size spare. Those donut things just don’t work. It is also nice to have AAA how long did you guys have to wait for them?
As long as I am in a pretty safe place I usually will just change my own tires when needed. I don’t like waiting around for AAA unless I really have to.
I do also practice changing the tires on my cars. I like to pretend I am on a pit crew and see how fast I can do it. Unfortunetly my request to purchase a compressor and air gun was denied along with the request for a hydrolic jack. Apparently someone does not take pit practice as seriously as she should
Andy,
I think I’d like to video your pit crew tie trials. Really need to see this. Neil was telling me that he carries an impact wrench for tire fixes. Had I had adequate tools, I might have given it a try, however I pay enough for Triple AAA that I am gonna use it when I can.
