We were invited to visit the AMC on Boston Common to see the LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part in a sneak preview. The movie comes out this Friday and I know it will be a very popular one. We were laughing so hard throughout the whole movie. I sat next to Eva and was delighted by how much she laughed all through the movie. There were so many great jokes and so much self-awareness in the movie. The songs were even catchier than the first and one made Andrew continue to sing it over and over and make up new lyrics that fit perfectly. One of the things that I liked most was how well the movie poked fun at itself and so much of the first movie. I liked it more than the first movie but understand that we needed that movie in order to get this one and to have all those jokes.

LEGO Movie 2 T-shirts
I picked up a LEGO shirt for Andrew and wore one of my own.

The movie picks up right after the events of the first movie and then pitches forward several years. The orderly Bricksburg is now a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The surviving residents are doing all they can to not attract attention from the LEGO DUPLO® invaders who have destroyed their home. Everyone has lost hope, everyone except for Emmet. Emmet still has that fully happy and optimistic attitude in the face of the LEGO DUPLO® invaders. Several of Emmet’s friends are abducted by the invaders and it is up to him to save everyone. He is helped by a planetary adventurer named Rex Dangervest. Rex and Emmet need to stop the plan of Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi and her emissary General Mayhem. Action, Adventure and so many fun pop culture references and jokes.

Review: I’ll be Next Door For Christmas

Ill Be Next Door For Christmas

I received access to a screener of the movie I’ll Be Next Door For Christmas as well as a box of goodies for free. Opinions of the movie are my own. This was the world’s first Christmas movie to use investment crowdfunding successfully. This means that people helped to fund the movie and received a return on their investment.

In this movie we meet Nicky and her over the top Christmas obsessed family. Nicky’s father is that guy on the block who goes all out on everything Christmas including lights and even costumes. He has such a love of Christmas that it borders on crazy. Well, actually it crosses that border big time. Nicky is not such a fan of Christmas but goes along with everything for the sake of the family until she meets Tanner, a boy at art camp. Tanner lives in Connecticut with his father. They are not big on Christmas because of a very painful memory. So when Tanner and his father come out to California to meet Nicky and her parents Nicky does some fancy thinking to keep her parents from meeting Tanner’s father because the Christmas overload would be too much pain for him.

Ill be next door for Christmas promo items
Probably one of the cutest and most original promo kits I’ve ever received. The giant family sweater that is featured in the movie made into a cookie and also a cookie of Lil’ Bub wo plays Parsley in the movie. Adorable and scrumptious!!

While the movie is certainly filled with a lot of cheesy-ness it is also filled with heart. It is one of those movies where if people were honest with each other then these crazy situations would not happen. It is the “If Woody Had Gone Straight To The Police, This Would Never Have Happened” conundrum. If Nicky had been honest with Tanner up front and then not doubled down on her deception then things could have been resolved before they got out of hand. Although, sometimes you have to go through something to come out the other side smarter and more in tune with everyone involved. I’m being vague because I don’t want to give things away. You can see more of that the movie is like from the trailer below.
