You could say that Groot is a tree of few words but those words will be in the voice of actor Vin Diesel when many non-English speaking audiences see the movie. Vin Diesel, who voices the character Groot in this summer’s highly anticipated, epic adventure Marvel’s GUARDIAN’S OF THE GALAXY, dubbed his lines from the film in Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese, French and Russian. The dubbing, intended to uniquely customize the moviegoing experience for international audiences, took place recently in Los Angeles during post-production in collaboration with key marketing teams around the globe. Here are a few of the languages that Vin did to give voice to Groot.
How does one decide to take on the role of a seven foot tall tree-like creature who says three words over and over? You have your kids help you out. That was the case with Vin Diesel deciding to play Groot the gentle yet extremely dangerous character in Guardians of the Galaxy. Groot may only say one phrase over and over, “I Am Groot” but as blogger Mitch of Gay NYC Dad puts it, “He says so much.” That may have been another one of Mitch’s clever quips but he certainly is not wrong in that statement.
