Andrew is keeping “Summer Brain” at bay by working in a workbook for his grade level and also he’s reading more. I took Andrew with me to my Krav Maga class to watch because his class was right afterwards. He brought along a Summer Reading book and was able to get through several chapters before it was time for his class. I was very impressed with how much he read. He barely wanted to put the book down. I had to make him take his nose out of it as we walked across the parking lot, though. He’s reading a Boxcar Children book.
These are a couple of Andrew’s recent book choices, one comic book from Free Comic Book Day and one book from Book Fair. I had heard of both of them before and I had an interest in both. In fact, almost 7 years ago I did a giveaway for the first issue of The Only Living Boy. I worked directly with the writer, David Gallaher to promote the book. I read it on my online reader, too and I know I enjoyed it. I’ll read this comic with Andrew, too.
The book is actually the third book in a series that has four books out already and one on the way. I had heard that the book was being turned into a series from Joshua Pruett and Scott Peterson. I saw it on Joshua’s Instagram feed. I follow Joshua because he is one of the writers of Shipwreckers: The Curse of the Cursed Temple of Curses. This is a very funny book that we reviewed in a video recently. You can see that below.
The Last Kids on Earth looks like a lot of fun and so I ordered Andrew the rest of the books in the series and we will read them together in preparation for the cartoon that will be on Netflix starting in Fall 2019. I just checked IMDB and I am so thrilled at seeing the lineup of voice talent that they have on the show. Folks like Bruce Campbell and Mark Hamill are part of the cast! The book series is written by Max Brallier and tonight as I was taking this photo and tweeting it out I looked up Max on Twitter only to find that he had been at An Unlikely Story tonight signing books. It is so weird how things are connected.
