Watching Daddy Clear Ice Dams

Photo-A-Day #3608

I was out on the roof smashing up ice dams while Andrew and Mimi watched. We had some water damage during the last little thaw and it was well past the time to do something about it. I came home from work and slept for a pretty long time. Mimi took care of Andrew for the day and it wiped her out. When I woke up it was not too cold so I climbed out on the roof with a shovel and started to shovel off the snow. Eventually I cleared most of the snow and then started placing the panty hose filled with ice melt. I also took a hammer to the ice and smashed up some channels that I hope take care of the leakage that we had on Sunday night. We have a little bubbling happening in the living room and I hope that doesn’t get any worse.

Ice at the Window

Photo-A-Day #3606

With the snow continuing to come down and freeze again and again we’ve gotten so many different ice formations but the most interesting one is right outside the second floor landing. Snow that had been right up against the window has pulled away and then a small icicle began to form. Then the icicle connected at top and bottom. It is kind of cool to look at.

Of course this has been an insane Winter. I am worried for ice dams on the back of the house. I’ve placed some roof melt up on the roof and hope that it will make some channels but it looks like eventually some panty hose and ice melt might be making its way up onto the roof. I’m so sick of all the snow and ice.
