Is everyone in New England all set with this heat and humidity? We certainly are. I’m so sick of it. I come home and we hang out in the rooms with the ac units because if I walk into any of the others I turn into a walking soggy puddle.
Finally today we got some relief from the heat and humidity. No, the weather did not break, instead we visited my Aunt Donna and had a great time in her pool. We were there on a day where she was watching her grandson Logan. Eva and Logan play well together so this was extra fun. Eva enjoyed the heck out of the pool. She swims with a little bubble on her back and she does a great job. She drinks a bit of the pool water but she motors across the pool pretty well.
Later that afternoon we went to the Bow Wow Meow Luau. This was a charity event to raise money for the organization Friends of North Attleboro Animal Shelter. I’m in charge of that organization’s website which is fnaas.org. My sister Tara is part of the organization too. She does a lot of work for it and so we got our tickets from her. The night was a cookout and there was a raffle and a DJ. We spent much of the night talking with our next door neighbor, which is 150% more than we’ve had a chance to even though we live right next to each other. She is looking for someone to take some photos of her two sets of twins. Yeah two sets of twins, pretty amazing. So I’ll take the kid photos and add to my portfolio.
Eva went strong the entire day and night. The drinks had paper umbrellas in them and she was in heaven. Eva is still very much into Mary Poppins and she love umbellas because of this. She also loves Carousels (which we’ve established many times before.) Well paper umbrellas are now no longer safe because Eva is on the loose and looking for them.
Eva was also the big winner tonight, taking home two handmade bracelets. They were pretty nice.
Okay so the photo-a-day is of a great praying mantis that was hanging out on the Black Eyes Susans. I took that photo with my Sanyo EC1 in super macro mode. I went back out hours later and took another shot with my Nikon D80 and the Sigma 18-250mm lens. I like the other one too because it looks like the PRaying Mantis is looking at me saying, “Can’t you leave me alone?”
Wow, what amazing photos! Although clearly the photographer deserves the credit, I never had a camera capable of capturing such images (to be more specific, I never had an SLR). For 2 years I’ve been struggling with which one to get. Hopefully will get one soon.
P.s. I already told you your daughter is an absolute cutie, right? 🙂

The second photo you posted of the insect in the the flowers is remarkable. The bug looks caught red handed! Nice work.

Udi,
Thanks. The Photo-A-Day image was not taken with a DSLR. It was a point and shoot. The bottom one was a DSLR though.
And thanks about Eva.
That Mantis photo Rocks! Yay Eva for the bracelets! She’s a fashion queen now!

Baba,
She certainly is a fashion queen for sure.
Hey Drew, Your picture of the praying mantis is just outstanding! I haven’t seen one in years, my great niece had a sleep over with me the other night (6 yrs. old) and at 10 pm we were out on my deck looking for “sticky frogs” and I happened to notice a katy did on the house. Well my niece’s name is Catie and she is such a nature freak just loved the katy did, I only wish I could find a praying mantis for her to look at she would be over the moon! Great photo. Will email you I still need help w/ socialspark pleeease. thanks jj

Hi JJ,
Thank you very much. A few years ago we put in a bunch of arborvitaes trees and on them were at least 8 praying mantis. We get them back every year now. I have been waiting for them to show up so I could start taking some photos of them. I really like the second one a bit more than the photo a day but whatever.
Great pictures! As always
Thanks Dad,
I guess those Praying Mantis from the arborvitaes liked the place and stuck around.
I love the picture with those glasses on, glad someone could get some use out of all that stuff. She’s too cute…
Shelby,
Was that your stuff, I didn’t realize. Eva sure enjoyed it all.
