Today I went to Toy Fair for the first time ever. I’ve never been to the event before and so far it has been a blast. I’ve only seen about a third of the whole show, the place is huge!
I found out that my train was cancelled and so I reached out to people that I knew who were going. Lucky for me my college friends Chris and Scott Proulx of Double Midnight Comics in Manchester, NH were driving down. They agreed to change their travel route and swing by to pick me up. I was so happy to get that early ride so that I could keep all of my appointments for the day. Thanks guys!
Now, on to the show.
We arrived at the guys hotel and I walked over to my hotel, was able to check in early and then walked to the Javits Center. I knew that I was there when I saw the giant sign for Skylanders SwapForce.
I went in and got my Press Pass. I was a bit nervous about this because I applied and was supposed to send in some credentials. It took me so long to get around to send them that when I saw my approval come in I was surprised. I got my pass without issue and started walking the floor. I had some appointments on the 3rd floor but I wanted to see what was on the first floor before that. I didn’t spend a lot of time on that floor but will go back tomorrow and Tuesday. There is much to see at the Toy Fair. I wandered and when things caught my eye I stopped and talked with people. I saw this sweet Batmobile. I bet Andrew would love to ride in that when he is bigger.
I made my way upstairs to find my first appointment which was with Spin Master. I was early still so I walked around and I found the Activision booth which was really amazing. There were giant statues of Skylanders SwapForce figures and a pirate ship, very cool.
I’ve got a meeting with them tomorrow, can’t wait!
Spin Master had some great new toys to show including the Zoomer Pup. This interactive pup acts like a real dog and does so many fun things. He even lifts his leg to do his business.
I was very excited to see what remote control vehicles they have coming out. There is a whole new Elite line that includes a quad copter and a five wheeled car that does all sorts of stunts and tricks. What I’d really like to drive though is the Drop Strike, a quad but also a helicopter that shoots missiles.
Spin Master also has some great new toys coming out for How to Train Your Dragon and an amazing flying fairy. The Flutterbye Fairies float above your child’s hand and will not crash to the floor. The woman who showed me how it worked took her hand away and the fairy went to the ground and bounced and hovered above it. This is something that little girls are going to be very excited about.
There were a bunch of other toys that I checked out after Spin Master including the Dinosaur Construction Company and Nancy B’s Science Club. I even found a game called Shelby’s Snack Shack.
Later I went to an appointment with MEGA Brands. There were many great products there but the ones that I wanted to see most of all were the Skylanders line of construction sets. They even have a great set of Flynn’s ship. That was my favorite one. They even had special figures from exclusives like a shiny purple Cynder which was the Toy Fair 2012 exclusive Skylanders figure from Activision. Great attention to detail on these sets.
Before I left I made sure that I went to the Jakks Pacific mini booth to ask about the SlugTerra toys. I was so excited about them that the guy I was talking to gave me a box. I got the one with Burpy and Joules. Eva is going to freak out!
It was a great day and I ended up turning in very early because I was beat down from the shoveling yesterday and the walking and standing all day today. My feet were killing me and I had to get some sleep. Night!
