Opening Night of Annie in Boston

With Eva at Annie in Boston
Photo-A-Day #4411

We received a family four-pack of tickets for free to see Annie on Opening night in Boston at the Wang Theater. Opinions are our own.

Going into Boston to see a show is always a special event with the family. We don’t do it that often but when we do we make an evening out of it. We headed up right after school and luckily the traffic wasn’t terrible. We got to Chinatown in plenty of time so we went over to Genki Ya for dinner. Eva loves this place because she can order sushi. We usually get Andrew a fried breast of chicken because he isn’t a fan of sushi but that changed on this trip. Andrew had his first sushi (Crazy Roll) and didn’t like it and then gobbled up his second sushi (tempura shrimp roll) and loved it!

After dinner we walked over to the theater and met up with my friend Joselin Mane. He is the man behind Boston TweetUp and has been a friend since the first MegaTweetUp back in 2009. He’s a social media star who attends 2 or 3 events daily. If you want to know where to go in Boston, he’s your guy!

We received excellent seats for the play and both kids settled right in to enjoy it. Eva, who has been doing a weekly theater program and has been in theater since she was five, was super excited for the play. She thoroughly enjoyed seeing it. The music and the dancing was fun. She got many of the jokes, too. Some we both missed because, let’s face it something that was funny in 1933 sometimes doesn’t quite translate. But much of it still holds up well. Andrew made it though most of the first act and then fell asleep, hard, on Allison. He slept through the end of the show, while I carried him to the car and all the way home. What a life.

In all, Annie is a great family performance that is worth seeing. The performances were well done and the girl who performed as Annie was fantastic.

If you are looking for tickets to the show you can go to www.anniethemusical.com and get tickets for shows from May 9 – 21st. You can also follow along on social media with @ANNIEonTour on twitter and www.facebook.com/AnnieTheMusical. More about the play below. Continue reading Opening Night of Annie in Boston

A Teachable Moment Kicked in the Face

My Zootopia Welcome Package
Photo-A-Day #3969

There are those moments in life that are Teachable Moments. In my life lately they have been moments where my kids have done the teaching. I have two really great kids and it isn’t because they are smart or athletic or any of those things. They are kind. So much so that it sometimes rubs off on this old curmudgeon. I’m a grump and a bit of a cynic. There have been times when the kindness of my kids has taken me out of my own little world long enough to look around. Tonight I sort of did that and that sort of backfired.

I describe the overall incident in the vlog but basically we went into Boston to see Zootopia tonight. I can’t say any more until March 4th. Before the movie Eva needed to use the bathroom and so I dropped she and Allison off at the Boston Common and they went to McDonald’s. Then Andrew and I parked and walked over to have dinner. While we were in line I ended up buying a breakfast for a homeless woman. And as we left the restaurant Eva and Andrew learned a couple of swears as that same woman yelled at her companion… loudly. So, next time it is popcorn for dinner when we hit the city for a press screening. It costs about the same anyway.

Do you like the image today, that is of a special welcome pack from the city of Zootopia. It included my very own Driver License and a copy of the Gazelle song ‘Try Everything’. I was hoping that there would be a stand up or something so that I could get a fun Zootopia photo for my upcoming review but there was not. Oh well. More in today’s vlog

Jokers For The 40 Year Old Boy

Photo-A-Day #3341

For a few weeks I’ve been posting tweets attempting to get the attention of Chris Hardwick and his Nerdist Podcast. I really would love to see Mike Schmidt as a guest on the show. Two years ago I went to Mike’s one man show, Success is not an Option, and had a great time. I also went to dinner with Mike the night before and that was a great time. Mike spent a few minutes during the show ripping me apart because I ate all of the Avocado from a salad that we were sharing at dinner the night before. Mike likes to order a bunch of things and share them with the table.

So, on June 1st I tend to wear a 40 Year Old Boy T-shirt and think of how else I can promote Mike and his podcast because I think he’d be a great guest on The Nerdist. Hopefully someone will see my posts, photos and tweets.

Father’s Day on the Spirit of Boston

Photo-A-Day #2627

Today Allison, Eva, Andrew and I went into Boston to take the Father’s Day lunch cruise on the Spirit of Boston. I was approached by The Spirit of Boston to go on the cruise as well as do a giveaway on the blog. I knew that I had last night off because of Eva’s Recital and so I would have time in the morning to go and do something like this. So I said yes and the family go ready to go. I was excited because we haven’t been on a boat as a family before. I also knew that we’d have fun because there were many activities for kids on the cruise. Success in Boston, it wasn’t just an ‘Option’

Photo-A-Day #2611

Today was a day that I had been waiting to come for months. Today was the day I got to see Mike Schmidt perform his one man show, Success is Not an Option. But before I get to that I had a day to myself as Allison, Eva and Andrew went to the Stone Zoo with my sister-in-law and my niece and nephew. So I wrote up my blog post about dinner with Mike, caught up on some e-mail and took a nap because despite the show I still had to go in to work for part of the night. Starting a Magical Christmas Season with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular

Photo-A-Day #2435

Tonight started the Holiday season for me. Eva and I went to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular in Boston. It was a Daddy/Daughter Date because Allison had to stay home with Andrew. We went as a family last year and Eva loved it. She was so excited to find out that we were going again. She was picking out the dress she was going to wear a couple of days ago and was wondering where we would have our dinner. She was so excited, she told her teachers all about it and everyone else that we saw. I couldn’t help but get caught up in the excitement as well. Tonight Allison, Eva and I went with my sisters Tara and Shelby to see Mary Poppins at the Boston Opera House. We first had a great dinner at P.F. Chang’s. Erik joined us there for dinner. It was delicious. After dinner we said goodbye to Erik and then headed to the Opera House. Continue reading Mary Poppins at Boston Opera House
