Blu-ray Review: The Lorax

The Lorax on DVD and Blu-ray

The Lorax comes out on Blu-ray today. We saw this movie at the theater with Eva and she really enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty cute and fun and stayed true to the heart of Dr. Seuss’ vision for the book. We had been reading the book to Eva every night for a week leading up to the release of the movie and she got into it and looked forward to the reading o the book. Now she can enjoy the movie again and again on Blu-ray.

We received a 2D copy of the movie to review. The movie is even more fun on Blu-ray. I watched many of the special features like EXPEDITION TO TRUFFULA VALLEY. This feature allows you to tour the valley and learn more about the inhabitants like the Bar-ba-loots and the Lorax and more. Each character has a bio page and a couple of videos including a drawing session with a story animator. That is a great feature for kids who are artists.

There are also three nice mini movies. I watched all of these and they were cute. What is also nice is that there is an explanation of why these mini movies were created. I just love seeing these behind the scenes features because I learn so much more about the movie and the reasons behind the creative decisions.

The movie is a nice addition to your collection and the extra features are fun. I haven’t explored everything yet but what I have seen I was impressed with. I’ve attached the official press release and a video about the movie. DR. SEUSS’ THE LORAX will arrive on Blu-ray™ 3D Combo Pack and Blu-ray™ Combo Pack (both sets featuring DVD, Digital Copy and UltraViolet™) on August 7, 2012 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. App Review: Disney Classics Bambi

Disney Reads Classics: Bambi

I was given a copy of the latest Disney Reads app. It was the classic tale of Bambi. This was the Phoebe Buffay version of the story. For those who never saw the TV show Friends Phoebe Buffay’s mother always turned off movies before anything bad happened. She never knew that Bambi’s mother was killed or other hardships that Bambi faced. This app is much the same in that the story tells of Bambi’s first half hour or so of the movie. Don’t get me wrong I think it is great for little kids to enjoy the story of Bambi and have it be happy throughout, they just might be a little upset when they see the full story.
