Movie Poster for The BFG Released

The BFG Movie Poster

The other day we received a copy of The BFG and I started reading it to Eva and Andrew. The kids have been all giggles as I read the silly words from The BFG. I think it will be one story that they will love for their life. This was not a book that I was ever familiar with as a kid. I’m loving it, too. Morea bout the movie below.

The BFG (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part. Giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the BFG prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle. Upon her arrival in Giant Country, Sophie, a precocious 10-year-old girl from London, is initially frightened of the mysterious giant who has brought her to his cave, but soon comes to realize that the BFG is actually quite gentle and charming, and, having never met a giant before, has many questions. The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams.

Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for one another quickly grows. But Sophie’s presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of the other giants, who have become increasingly more bothersome. Says Spielberg, “It’s a story about friendship, it’s a story about loyalty and protecting your friends and it’s a story that shows that even a little girl can help a big giant solve his biggest problems.” Sophie and the BFG soon depart for London to see the Queen (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but they must first convince the Queen and her maid, Mary (Rebecca Hall), that giants do indeed exist. Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all. Continue reading Movie Poster for The BFG Released

Two New Shows Headed to PBS Kids

Ready Jet Go!

PBS Kids has two new shows coming your way. The first is READY JET GO! which is a story about a young alien boy who comes to Earth with his family. He makes friends with a group of kids and they go on Outer Space adventures together. I got to preview this show at the PBS Annual Meeting and I was very impressed. I am looking forward to both kids watching the show. I don’t have to wait until the release date of February 15th, though and neither do you. You can check out some early episodes for free on various PBS online platforms. We’ve been watching on the app for the Roku and the show is great. Definitely a fun one to get kids excited about Space and Space exploration.

NEW DIGITAL OFFERINGS: READY JET GO!
· New streaming video content and digital games from PBS KIDS’ newest multiplatform media property READY JET GO! is now available. On digital platforms, viewers can now preview four full-length 11-minute stories from the series. The episodes will continue to roll out throughout the month, totaling 12 11-minute stories by January 29, the most full-length video content PBS KIDS has ever released in advance of a broadcast premiere. The videos are available for free on pbskids.org, the PBS KIDS Video App and PBS KIDS Video on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Xbox One and Chromecast. In addition, two mobile-friendly web games, hands-on activities for children and families and a live stream of the International Space Station channel are available at pbskids.org/readyjetgo.

NEW SERIES: SPLASH (w.t.) – premieres Fall 2016
· Created by John Tartaglia (“Imaginocean,” “Johnny and the Sprites”) and produced by The Jim Henson Company (DINOSAUR TRAIN, SID THE SCIENCE KID) and Herschend Enterprises (Dollywood, Harlem Globetrotters), SPLASH (w.t.) is designed to encourage kids ages 4-7 to explore the diversity and spectacle of our natural undersea world. The series follows the adventures of its title character, a yellow fusilier fish who has migrated all over the oceans before settling down with his family in Reeftown. Until Splash came along, Bubbles, Dunk, Ripple and most of the other Reeftown residents had no idea what lay beyond the cozy confines of their coral walls. Together, Splash and his friends explore the world’s oceans, where they meet wildly diverse marine animals and discover otherworldly undersea habitats, bringing back what they’ve learned to share with their neighbors.
