Playing Classic Games and Talking Christmas Traditions

Playing games as a family

We received a set of classic toys from Catholic Central for sponsorship of this blog post. Catholic Central also is providing another set of toys for us to give away to you.

With Christmas less than two weeks away at this point let’s talk Christmas traditions. Growing up Catholic and also raising our kids in the Catholic tradition we certainly have many traditions centered around Christmas. Each year we go to the Christmas Eve vigil or midnight masses at our church. We also have family to our home to share a meal on Christmas Eve.

One of the traditions that I have been excited to do every year is our annual toy collection and donation to Christmas is for Kids. This is something that we have done for ten years. We involve the kids in this project because understanding that helping people however we can is important. So, we save money each month to do a special shopping trip where the kids decide what toys to get for the donations. Toys and Christmas go hand in hand for us so it made the most sense that our charity of choice to work with provides toys to local children each Christmas.

At Christmas is for Kids

Once we go on our shopping trip together and drop off the toys we go to a local shrine called La Salette to see the Christmas lights and then hit Bliss Bros. Dairy for dinner. While we have been collecting the toys and donating them for 10 years it has only been the last 7 or so years that we’ve added in the La Salette and Bliss night. It is one of my favorite things about the Christmas season.

We love toys and games, too. We receive so many toys and games to review. However, sometimes we have the most fun doing silly simple games together. Catholic Central put together these Christmas Fun in 5 Minutes games to play and you don’t need much to do them. Just download the .pdf file and you can start playing silly fun games as you prepare for your own Christmas traditions. It also includes some cool facts about the “whys” and history behind some of the most time-honored Christmas traditions!

At the Branson Ferris Wheel

During my trip to Branson, Missouri I made a couple of stops at places of historic significance. They were the Branson Ferris Wheel and the Titanic Museum. I was in Branson for a special press tour. I paid my travel to get there and once there the hotel, shows and meals were taken care of. Opinions of all events and shows are my own.

One of the places that we visited was the Branson Ferris Wheel. This very tall Ferris Wheel did not originate in Branson, in fact I had seen this same Ferris Wheel before in Chicago. It was on Navy Pier from 1995 – 2015. Then it was dismantled and moved to Branson where it opened for rides in 2016. The Branson Ferris Wheel is part of the Track Family Fun Parks. This includes several Go Kart tracks, which we did not ride and I so wanted to do that. Maybe on my next trip. There are so many things to do at the Track Family Fun Parks.

Branson Ferris Wheel

The Branson Ferris Wheel stands at 150 feet tall, it can hold 240 riders in its 40 gondolas at the same time and has 16,000 LED lights that light up the night sky on the Branson entertainment corridor. You can see all of the entertainment corridor from the top of the Branson Ferris Wheel and at night you can see its lights dancing on the skyline. One night we had just left one of the shows and I and looked over at the Branson Ferris Wheel. It was beautiful. I loved the dancing lights and designs that were made on the Branson Ferris Wheel.
