View your Flickr or Picasa Images in a “Cool” Way

Today at work I was introduced to Cooliris. Yeah, at work I learned about something cool online. I know… I’m shocked too.

I was assigned a little project to take photos of concepts for a presentation and then present them using Cooliris.

What Cooliris does is it presents your media in a very dynamic way. It can show a ton of different things including photos and videos. There is an embedding option too and I was able to get the embedding to put my own Flickr images. I could do the same things with Picasa as well.

This is one that I made using the Photo-A-Day images from my Flickr set, so you can buzz through all of 2009.A

  1. I used to have this on my computer, but haven’t put it back since I had to reformat. Yes, I know, it’s been months, but I’ve just been installing things as I need them. It’s unbelievable how many unnecessary things come to live on my computer.

I never tried the embed thing, though, and that is cool enough that I will probably go install this again. Then, of course, I better use it once in a while.

  2. Anna,
I’d probably get rid of it after I do this project for work, it seemed to suck lots of resources in order to run. The embed thing is pretty cool though. Very easy.

  3. Hi Ben,

Thanks very much for writing about us, and great work with that embed wall! Good to hear that you found it easy to put on your site – it does provide a pretty nice display.

I’m sorry to hear that you are considering uninstalling it once your work is done. Is this just because of how much memory it takes up? We’re in the process of working on performance and decreasing the amount of memory Cooliris uses, so you should be seeing some improvements in the near future.

If you have any other feedback, we would love to hear from you ([email protected]). Also, check out our blog to get the inside scoop on what’s coming up next (http://blog.cooliris.com)! Thanks again.

    Best,
    Mark

  4. Thanks Mark,
I had a little trouble with the embedding, the instructions and code that is on the pages wasn’t working right, it wasn’t until I copied an embedded wall and inserted my own code for my api that it worked properly. I think I’d only use Cooliris for embedding. Not sure I need it on my web browser yet. I will surely play with it for a while to see what I come across and if it works for a specific need I may have.

I appreciate that you came here to leave me a comment, it shows that you are committed to a product that you truly believe in. That is key.

  5. Lenny, Maybe but I cannot say that is the case. I just noticed my computer running slowly, but it does need an overhaul I haven’t installed on the home computer where the major sets of images live. I may try that.
