After a short morning nap after work Allison, Eva and I had some lunch and then headed over to Bass Pro Shops. At the Bass Pro Shops near us there is a nice walking trail around a cranberry bog. It was nice to walk around through the woods on a gentle trail. We saw wildlife, took photos and had some fun.
Eva was excited to go hiking because she could wear her Backyard Safari Outfitters explorer vest and use the compass so that we could keep going straight. She cracks me up. I gave her my camera and she had fun taking rapid fire photos. I haven’t yet gotten a chance to look through them. Okay just looked, pretty much a very blurry looking group of photos. She had fun though.
When we got there we walked along and saw a little commotion in a pond. A rather large water snake nabbed itself a bullfrog. We watched the circle of life for a little bit and then started walking away. Then I saw a frog tearing across the water and a couple of snakes still swimming around. It looked like the snake no longer had the frog in its mouth so I suspect that the poor unfortunate frog somehow managed to get away. Allison suspects not but from what I could see there were two snakes and neither one had anything it its mouth.
No way it was going to swallow that frog that quickly. The frog took off and then hid up int eh grass. The hungry snake was looking for it.
Every time I take any camera other than my D80 tons of cool things happen where I’d need my telephoto lens.
After our nature walk we walked through Bass Pro Shops. Eva tried out all of the ATVs. She then went and scouted the trout. I decided that I’d pick myself up a fishing pole and so I got a pretty inexpensive one that came with a tackle box and a starter kit of tackle. I also bought a fishing license. I’m going to take Eva fishing sometime this week and I plan to go fishing on my kayak tomorrow morning. It was convenient to get the license at Bass Pro Shops.
Is it me or does every person who is in charge of licenses automatically abrupt and personality-less? Seriously, is there a test or something?
We got the fishing pole and checked out. Allison and Eva started walking to Christmas Tree Shops. I went and got the car. We met up at Christmas Tree Shops and took a walk around. Saw a ton of kitschy things for the house. No wonder we don’t go there that often. It is crazy. I know we don’t need the stuff but a funky Tiki Torch lawn ornament is tempting.
We had a family dinner at Red Robin. Eva loves that place.
when I got home I put my racks on the car and then also the kayak. I had to wash it off because it has been sitting out all winter and Spring. It was covered in stuff from the trees. Now it is clean and ready and I hope I got all the spiders out.
So, it was a nice family day and I’m beat. Time for bed.

Eva looks so cute in her Safari vest! We love going to Brass Pro Shops. The fish tanks, shopping, trails. A fun day.
Deborah,
I first learned of Bass Pro out in Springfield, MO. It was about the only place I could go to after I had finished working for the day. I loved visiting that one. Ours is nice too. But that one is major. I could spend the day in that one.
Must have been exciting to watch that frog/snake action! Would have loved to see some close up photos of that, but I guess that kind of thing would never have happened if you had brought the telephoto lens…
