Today was a tough Friday for me. Tough only because I wasn’t able to sneak in a nap. In addition to everything I tried before getting home I tried one more thing and Andrew and I snuggled up into my bed to watch some cartoons. Laying down did not get him to fall asleep. Nope, instead it seemed to make him even more awake, or rather make me more sleepy. More about it in the vlog and then below that I have the 2016 slate of movies coming from Disney.
It looks like another big year for Disney and their slate of movies. More animation with Zootopia, Finding Dory and Moana. Reviving older titles with some remakes with The Jungle Book and Pete’s Dragon. Adapting a popular children’s book with The BFG and more Marvel action with Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange. If you are clamoring for new Star Wars but don’t want to wait till 2018 for Episode VIII then in December you can see Rogue One, a story set in the Star Wars Universe that takes place between episodes III and IV.
Vlog Transcript:
Opening Video:
Hey this is Drew Bennett from BenSpark.com and I’m just starting off my day with a big cup of Star Lord Coffee. I got this from Marvel Collectors Club and this is the start of today’s vlog.
Main Video:
So throughout the day we.. It was just me and Andrew. Today’s Friday. Friday’s when I go back to work. That means it’s a day where I’m up for 24 hours straight. So that’s when you get those crazy vlogs of me not making any sense whatsoever on Saturday because I haven’t had much sleep. But, I figured I’d try to get Andrew to fall asleep today. Well, I took him to playgroup….
Car Video:
ME: So, it’s Friday and they have a drop-in playgroup at our local… where we go for playgroup and Andrew and I are gonna go to drop-in playgroup. What are you doing back there, buddy?
ANDREW: Being a king.. a naughty king.
ME: You’re a naughty king. Are you gonna be naughty in playgroup?
ANDREW: No
ME: Good. Alright well let’s go to playgroup.
ANDREW: I’m not going to bring this crown in.
ME: Yeah, don’t bring that crown in. Silly Goose. Alright, we’re going to playgroup!
Main video:
And then after playgroup. When we finished. We , you know, talked about playgroup.
Car Video:
ME: So, we just finished playgroup and Andrew is eating some space goldfish back there. How was playgroup bud?
ANDREW: Good.
ME: Yeah, what was your favorite part?
ANDREW: Playing on the playground!
ME: Playing on the playground… What about all that stuff we were doing for the past two hours, inside?
ANDREW: What were we doing inside?
ME: You don’t even remember. What did we make?
ANDREW (Holds up mittens)
ME: Ah mittens, couple mittens with a handprint. Alright, some fun playtime stuff. Got to talk with some other parents and watch the kids play. IT was fun.
Main Video:
And when we were done with that we went out and had some lunch.

ME: What are we doing?
ANDREW: Having Lunch!
ME: And what are you doing right now?
ANDREW: Coloring!
ME: Can you make some shapes?
ANDREW (Makes a triangle with three crayons)
ME: Awesome, How about a letter?
ANDREW: (Makes the letter Z) Z!
ME: Cool!
Main Video:
And when we got home. When we were done with lunch. I figured I would drive and drive and drive after we made a quick trip to Big Lots to pick up some glue sticks because we needed to put some more glue sticks for the stadium. For the snack stadium. We needed some glue sticks to glue down the tin foil. I figured after that I would drive. I drove and drove and drove. And did it make him fall asleep?
Car Video:
ME: So, it’s Friday. We went to play group for 2 ½ hours. Went out to lunch. I drove and drove and drove for a lot of extra time. Are you tired Andrew?
ANDREW: No.
ME: Didn’t think so. I got a 12 hour shift tonight, starting at 7. Don’t think I’m gonna get any time to sleep and take a little nap. Are you gonna take a nap, buddy?
ANDREW: Nope!
ME: Yep, (sigh) such is Friday. When you all say TGIF (shakes head) Not me, not me.
ANDREW: (Babbling in the background)
Main Video:
So, it’s Friday. I really wanted to get some sleep before I went back to work. Do something, just have some alone time, some quiet time, so just whatever time. Rather than just these five minutes making this vlog. And it didn’t happen. So, it’s another Friday, going back to work, I’m really tired.
But before I do that I’m gonna talk to you today about the 2016 Slate of movies coming from Disney. I get these emails, these promotional publicity emails telling me what’s going on with Disney for 2000 and 16. So every year they put out the slate of movies that are coming and there’s a ton of them coming.
In January, January 29th the movie, The Finest Hours which is based on a true story out of Chatham Massachusetts of the most courageous. I guess it says, “The incredible story..” It’s just like an incredible Coast Guard story with the Coast Guard in Chatham, Massachusetts with Chris Pine.
Then March 4th is Zootopia which is what if the world was full of animals that were walking upright like people.
April 15th that is the Jungle Book. A live action Jungle Book. A lot of different voice actors in that one including Scarlett Johansson and more.
Let’s see, March 6th (I should have said May 6th) Scarlett Johansson again in Captain America: Civil War. Now, I really, really want to go to the press trip for Captain America: Civil War. I went to Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy and it was such an amazing time. Even though I am Team Stark I do have my Captain America shirt on today. Although I don’t think anyone wins in a war between those superheroes. It says Divided we Fall.
Then we have May 27th, Alice: Through the Looking Glass. The sequel to Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp.
June 17th we’ve got Finding Dory. So, it’s the follow up to Finding Nemo.
July 1st we get The BFG and that is a story from Roald Dahl. I think I’m saying that right. Anyway I got a book about that yesterday sent to me from PR for Disney which is really cool so I can read that with my daughter. I’ve never read it. So I don’t… I know it’s about a giant. I don’t know much else.
August 12th is Pete’s Dragon. A remake of Pete’s Dragon. Pete’s Dragon is actually my wife’s favorite, favorite movie. I liked Pete’s Dragon a lot when I was a kid.
In Fall 2016, so it doesn’t have a date yet, is Queen of Katwe. K A T W E, I’m sure I’m saying it wrong.
November 4th is another Marvel Movie, it’s Doctor Strange. A funny thing is. I’ve been reading Tales of Suspense, some early, early comics. I’ve started reading them because of Iron Man and in the 3rd or fourth issue with Iron Man, so like 42 or something like that. There is a Dr. Strange. But he’s not the Dr. Strange that we know, the mystic. He is actually a villain and his name’s Dr. Strange, so that’s kind of interesting.
In November 23rd we get, I want to say Moana. Yeah, it’s Moana, it is an animated movie. It stars The Rock and he’s one of the characters in this movie. I don’t know much else about that.
December 16th we get the first Star Wars spinoff, or movie inspired by Star Wars, set in the Star Wars universe but not, like, Star Wars in any of the trilogies. It is called Rogue One. So that is December 16th, Rogue One.
And then to finish out, sometime in 2016 there is a movie, it is a live action movie called the Light Between Oceans and I know nothing about that so. I’ll probably put more about that in the blog post that goes with this video.
Again this is Drew Bennett from BenSpark.com. You can find me on Instagram as BenSpark. On Twitter as BenSpark. At facebook.com/ImNotAFamousBlogger and you can subscribe here for my everyday blogs for 2016. I appreciate you watching and thank you very much.
A heroic action-thriller, “The Finest Hours” is the remarkable true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history. Presented in Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D, the film will transport audiences to the heart of the action, creating a fully-immersive cinematic experience on an epic scale. On February 18, 1952, a massive nor’easter struck New England, pummeling towns along the Eastern seaboard and wreaking havoc on the ships caught in its deadly path, including the SS Pendleton, a T-2 oil tanker bound for Boston, which was literally ripped in half, trapping more than 30 sailors inside its rapidly-sinking stern. As the senior officer on board, first assistant engineer Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck) soon realizes it is up to him to take charge of the frightened crew and inspire the men to set aside their differences and work together to ride out one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast. Meanwhile, as word of the disaster reaches the U.S. Coast Guard station in Chatham, Massachusetts, Warrant Officer Daniel Cluff (Eric Bana) orders a daring operation to rescue the stranded men. Despite overwhelming odds, four men, led by Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber (Chris Pine), set out in a wooden lifeboat with an ill-equipped engine and little, if any, means of navigation, facing frigid temperatures, 60-foot high waves and hurricane-force winds.
The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,” a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”), opens in theaters on March 4, 2016.
Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a August 20, 2015 man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of selfdiscovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire. The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world. The wild adventure swings into theaters in 3D on April 15, 2016.
Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. Opens in Theaters May 6, 2016.
Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd and Frank Grillo, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl.
In Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” an all-new spectacular adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter. Directed by James Bobin, who brings his own unique vision to the spectacular world Tim Burton created on screen in 2010 with “Alice in Wonderland,” the film is written by Linda Woolverton based on characters created by Lewis Carroll and produced by Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd and Tim Burton with John G. Scotti serving as executive producer. “Alice Through the Looking Glass” reunites the all-star cast from the worldwide blockbuster phenomenon, including: Johnny Depp, Anne
Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter along with the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall. We are also introduced to several new characters: Zanik Hightopp (Rhys Ifans), the Mad Hatter’s father and Time himself (Sacha Baron Cohen), a peculiar creature who is part human, part clock.
Alice Kingsleigh (Wasikowska) has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of Underland and her friends the White Rabbit (Sheen), Absolem (Rickman), the Cheshire Cat (Fry) and the Mad Hatter (Depp), who is not himself. The Hatter has lost his Muchness, so Mirana (Hathaway) sends Alice on a quest to borrow the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the chamber of the Grand Clock which powers all time. Returning to the past, she comes across friends – and enemies – at different points in their lives, and embarks on a perilous race to save the Hatter before time runs out. Presented in Digital 3D™, Real D 3D and IMAX® 3D, Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass” opens in U.S. theaters on May 27, 2016.
Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory” reunites everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory, with her friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about her past. What can she remember? Who are her parents? And where did she learn to speak Whale? Directed by Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo,” “WALL•E”) and produced by Lindsey Collins (co-producer “WALL•E”), the film features the voices of Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Ed O’Neill, Kaitlin Olson, Ty Burrell, Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton. “Finding Dory” swims into theaters June 17, 2016.
The talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg – finally unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic “The BFG” to life. Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s “The BFG” tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. The BFG (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part. Giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the BFG prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle.
Upon her arrival in Giant Country, Sophie, a precocious 10-year-old girl from London, is initially frightened of them mysterious giant who has brought her to his cave, but soon comes to realize that the BFG is actually quite gentle and charming, and, having never met a giant before, has many questions. The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams. Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for one another quickly grows, but Sophie’s presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of the other giants, who have become increasingly more bothersome. Sophie and the BFG soon depart for
London to see the Queen (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but they must first convince the Queen and her maid, Mary (Rebecca Hall), that giants do indeed exist. Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all.
Directed by three-time Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg (“Bridge of Spies,” “Schindler’s List,” ”Saving Private Ryan”) from a screenplay by Melissa Mathison (“E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,” “The Black Stallion”) based on the best-selling novel by Roald Dahl, “The BFG” stars three-time Tony Award® and two-time Olivier Award winner Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies,” “Wolf Hall”), newcomer Ruby Barnhill, Penelope Wilton (“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “Downton Abbey”), Jemaine Clement (“Rio 2,” “The Flight of the Conchords”), Rebecca Hall (“The Gift,” “Iron Man 3”), Rafe Spall (“The Big Short,” “Prometheus”) and Bill Hader (“Inside Out,” “Trainwreck”). The film is produced by Spielberg, Frank Marshall (“Jurassic World,” “The Bourne Ultimatum”) and Sam Mercer (“Snow White and the Huntsman,” “The Sixth Sense”) with Kathleen Kennedy (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Lincoln”), John Madden (“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “Shakespeare in Love”), Kristie Macosko Krieger (“Bridge of Spies,” “Lincoln”), Michael Siegel (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Rise of the Guardians”), Frank Smith and Naia Cucukov serving as executive producers. “The BFG” opens in U.S. theaters on July 1, 2016, the year that marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth.
Remake of Allison’s favorite movie, with Robert Redford. A reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film “Pete’s Dragon” is the adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon.
“Queen of Katwe” is the colorful true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion.
Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.
Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one today knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”) and produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”), “Moana” sails into U.S. theaters on Nov. 23, 2016
Lucasfilm’s Rogue One, which takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star.
DreamWorks Pictures’ “The Light Between Oceans” is a heart-breaking drama about fate, love, moral dilemmas and the lengths to which one couple will go to see their dreams realized.
