Back when the original How to Train Your Dragon movie came out I was blown away by such an amazing story full of humor and heart. I could not wait to share the movie with my daughter, Eva. Cut to years later when we have completed reading the 11 books in the Cressida Cowell series, seen all the movies and all the TV series. We are huge fans of Dragons and now excited to be watching the new Netflix Original Series, Dragons: Race to the Edge. To better celebrate this new series the Netflix Stream Team sent us a fun Dragons: Race to the Edge box of goodies. We’ve been on the Cape for the past few weeks and so today was my first chance to show the kids the box. They were thrilled.
It just so happened that the kids wanted to go and watch a couple of episodes of Dragons: Race to the Edge today. We’ve had a great time watching the show together since it premiered back on June 26. We’ve watched most of the episodes so far and Eva and I have noticed that many more dragons are showing up on the show. That is something that we loved about the books, the sheer number of dragons that were in the book series. It is great seeing even more dragons.
The package that we received contained a metal Dragons lunchbox that had Dragon Scales (Doritos) and Dragon Claws (Bugles) inside. Then we also had some masks for photo shoots and a Dragons map and Dragons fleece throw. Great to use when we watch Dragons in the Winter because at the moment it is wicked hot and gross here. Luckily, the living room is nice and cool with the air conditioner so we gather to watch shows together in the cool air. However, we do have to get outside, too. The box contained some chalk as well, so the kids drew while I grilled up dinner.
Eva made a great big dragon with the intent that she’d be photographed riding it. She is very talented and loves to color. Andrew also made some things with chalk. He created a dragon sword but wanted to ride Eva’s dragon as well.
There are 13 episodes in the first season of Dragons: Race to the edge and it is quite the adventure. Once we get to the end of this cool adventure we’ll be looking for more to watch. As far as family friendly adventure I have a few suggestions.
Slugterra: This one is out there but it is so well done. It is about an underground world called Slugterra that is like the wild west if it had technology. Slugslingers are like cowboys who battle using living ammunition, slugs. But these aren’t slimy slugs that you need to get rid of in your garden. They are cute little guys with personality but when they hit 100mph they morph into very powerful weapons. Netflix has the entire run of the show plus the movies. Get caught up with this show because more movies and possibly another season is coming.
