I’ve been watching Ultimate Spider-Man on Disney recently. The second season just started and for a little while my Comcast On Demand had all the episodes from the first season up for watching. I started watching them all from the beginning and really enjoyed them. At first I thought it was a little corny and silly but as I began to watch more of it I could see how much fun the show was and I liked this interpretation of Spider-Man.
In Ultimate Spider-Man Peter Parker is personally recruited to S.H.I.E.L.D. by director Nick Fury. Nick offers to train Spider-Man to be the Ultimate Spider-Man that he can be. At first Peter resists but he eventually gets curious as to what S.H.I.E.L.D. can offer him. He joins up and becomes part of a team that is made up of Power Man, Iron Fist, White Tiger and Nova. These heroes are also young recruits with super powers. Peter is also not too keen on being part of a team. Through the episodes we see the team bonding together and becoming more of a unit. Spider-Man is still the wildcard.
I’ve watched episodes where Spider-Man teams up with Iron Man and becomes Iron Spider for a while. That was a fun episode. I haven’t watched the team up with Captain America, Thor or Hulk because those episodes expired on Comcast before I could watch them.
However, a new DVD is being released that showcases episodes where Spider-Man and the team work with some of the Avengers. This is obviously capitalizing on the success of The Avengers movie. Maybe it is the type of person that I am, I need to see something from the beginning so that I can see character development and plot development. I don’t like these compilation DVDs for the most part especially with a show that has a continuity. Watching things out of order bugs me. Just release the full season already. I’ll personally wait for the full season to be released because this is a fun show with a lot of great cameos, good voice acting and a fun story. I love that Stan Lee is the janitor, too.
The DVD Set does have some extras that you won’t see anywhere else though. Here’s some Ultimate Spider-Man Activity Pages that you can download and color. Also here is further information on the 2 Disc DVD set and some videos.
