Today was pretty busy because the voting page just went up for the MyBowlAd.com competition. I am one of 10 finalists to win a trip to California to watch a Super Bowl Commercial be filmed and maybe even be in it. You can help me by Fueling my Blog. And you can do that every day till August 23rd. One vote a Day. I’m going to need all the votes I can get.
I went on out and spent a good hour taking tons of photos today. They were of the some Bumblebees and Dragonflies about. The flower is a new one for me though. Of course I have no clue what it is. I’m such a good green thumb. Here are the photos. Some are on Zooomr and some are on Flickr, and of course the Photo-A-Day comes from Buzznet.
You might have noticed that the last two images are the same but cropped differently I’d like to hear what people think about which one is better. I always have a couple of choices for cropping and wanted to see how this image looked with different cropp
ing.
Contest Update. Wow there was a huge jump today. Lisa is flying up the ladder to solidify the top spot, can anyone catch her? I sent out an e-mail to all contestants today and the call was answered big time. I’m really hoping for some help in the Super Bowl contest. I also made a typo in that e-mail. The person who gets me the most votes for the contest gets 50 points not 250 because that would be a huge unfair jump. And I want this to be a fair contest. And I like what I have been seeing across the sites of each contestant. I would like to highlight all the posts that have been written about the contest, or about one of my photos or the super bowl contest.

Congrats on becoming a finalist in the contest – California is a pretty state. In response to the question you posed about the picture, I really like the photo that is cropped to be longer vertically.
i’m really slipping here…i better get my act together!!
That’s another cool one 🙂 Cool, but slightly creepy!
I like the 2nd cropped photo better. I don’t know why though.
I like the first photo! The focus is pretty good located at the head of this dragonfly. Well done!
I like the crop on the right. Can’t put it into words, just like that one better. Though all of your photos are amazing, as always!
Thanks Joe, I hope to visit California again soon. So one vote for the vertical crop. Thanks.
Hey there Mo. Yeah there is some ground to make up. But which of the cropped photos is the better one?
Thanks Laurie, It is weird I never liked bugs that much growing up but they make great macro subjects.
Thanks Lisa, that is two for the vertical crop.
Thanks Eliot, I wanted to be tight on the dragonfly’s face for sure.
Well that is 3 votes for the vertical crop. That was the one I did first and then got the idea to re-crop it. I guess I should go with my gut instincts from now on. And thank you hon.
Looks like the flower is a delphinium and I can’t decide between the two crops. I’ve wanted a macro lens for a while now and your photos make me want to splurge now!
SEEE!! I am way out of it!! I like the vertical one too…it’s closer, more personal, and visually appealing!
Thanks Becky, I know you know your flowers and since your photos are wicked awesome I am anxious to hear your opinion on mine. Thanks so much for commenting. I’d like a specifically macro lens as well so I can get closer, this zoom/macro thing is kind of a pain.
I like that everyone is enjoying my favorite crop because that means that what I am intending to convey is getting out there. Cool.
I also like your 2nd dragonfly picture better probably because of the flash and better details. Although your 3rd dragonfly picture looks like it is holding onto a diamond because of the shape and its shininess.
I love dragonflies…the top picture is the coolest!
Thanks, I appreciate the comments about the photos. The dragonfly is a fun bug to photograph.
Thanks Christine, That’s why I made that one the photo of the day.
