I received a copy of the new Ruckus Media Group app, My Little Pony: Twilight Sparkle, Teacher for a Day. This is a fun interactive storybook type app. The great thing about this app is that you can have it read to you. You can read it by yourself or, and this is great for parents you can record your own voice reading the story to your child. I think that is such a fun option. This app has much more to offer as well.
When your child plays with this app in the Read to Me mode The words on the page highlight as the narration occurs. I like this because as Eva is starting to learn how to read she can see the word and hear the word to associate the two. The book is read by Twilight Sparkle and I really with that all the other voice actors would have done their parts as well. Kids can touch special parts of the page to activate little animations or Easter eggs (There is even a Derpy Hooves appearance that is super secret, look for it on page 33. You have to tap around to find the right spot.). You can tell where to tap because the page will sparkle a little on that spot. This lets the kids participate more in the book.
There are also mini games found within the book. One of the games has your child tilt and tip the iPad to use the accelerometer to guide the ponies through different mazes. It is very simple and kids pick this up easily. Also there are on screen tips on how to play each game. Another activity is a Spot the Different activity. Kids can look at two photos and top the differences that they see. This helps kids learn to be more observant and build problem solving skills. When children play these mini games they earn words that can be used with the activity at the end of the story.
Here is a video about the app.
This story ties right into the continuity of the My Little Pony Friendship is Magic television show. The story actually gives a back story on how Equestria was created and also why the Grand Galloping Gala is held every year.
At the end of the story children can select words to make their own story. The more times they play through the app the more words they capture to use in the final story. The final story is a fill in the blank three page story. Kids drag words into the empty spaces to create their very own story. They can be accurate to the recap of the story they just read or use their creativity and imagination to make a silly story. Once they have filled in all the words they can have Twilight Sparkle read the story that they just created.
Eva love this app and I’m a big fan of it as well. Eva and I watch My Little Pony on a regular basis. It is fun to have this interactive app to play with together. The App is only $0.99 right now which is a good value. I happen to know that that price will not last. The app is going to $3.99 on Friday 10/14/11. So get yourself a copy today. The app works on both the iPad and iPhone. I’m giving away two copies of this app. Rules on how to enter are after the official description of the app.
