Shockwaves of Irony

Photo-A-Day #2121

I picked this Shockwave Transformers Animated figure up at Marshalls today, it was marked down. Got a pretty decent price on it too. This character in Transformers Animated was a spy, he has a disguise as an Autobot but is really a Decepticon. He’s now taking the head off a Transformers GoBot that my Aunt gave me. Eva left that one in my room for me. There was a line of kid friendly, easy to transform robots out a few years before Eva was born. They didn’t catch on though and I didn’t pick them up, I really should have picked them all up so we could play together. she really likes Daddy’s Optimus Prime Transformers. She didn’t like Shockwave though, she made me put it in the other room while she was in the living room.

Eva spent the whole day in the living room today because around 9:00am she was getting ready to go with Allison to the Y and stated that her tummy didn’t feel well. She was right. She looked like she was going to get sick and a little bit came up. I scooped her up and aimed her towards the bathroom toilet Pink princess dress, fake earrings and tiara and all. She got pretty sick, poor kid. I stuck through it too. I hear about sympathy pukers, I’m not one. I learned that today. Luckily I was home today because I was out sick as well.

Eva got to have all the TV she wanted for the day and I picked up a My little pony for her because The Hub has become her favorite channel with all new My Little Pony and Strawberry Shortcake. she’s also watching Fraggle Rock from time to time too. She got sick again a few times during the day and managed to nail Allison’s slippers once and destroy a lap desk another. Allison and I took shifts out of the house just to keep a little sanity. Eva was much better in the afternoon and we watched a kids movie called Alpha and Omega. Skip it, it was not good. I used RedBox for the first time and picked that movie up along with The Losers. I’d skip that one as well. I’m not allowed to rent movies for a month now. That is okay since we usually just DVR things and haven’t watched an actual rental movie in a long time.

We put Eva down for bed at 7:00pm. It is now 11pm and Eva just got sick again, a full on shower and complete change of sheets was required. Poor little monkey. It is going to be a long night for us all.

  1. Drew,

    Hope she feel better.

FYI sympathy puking is actually a survival mechanism ingrained in us. It has to do with the fact the humans evolved in tribal communal society. Basically if someone ate something bad, tainted or poisonous and got sick the rest of the tribe who was eating together would puke and thus not actually get as sick on the bad food. In this case the individual with the weakest stomach protect the entire group.

In modern society puke is just grow be some of us do have this left over inate reaction to seeming someone puke, or smelling it.

      1. Nope that is true I read it somewhere. Although I don’t really feel wikipedia is a valid reference in this case I am too lazy to search for a better one. They seem to confirm my statement. Unfortunately I am apprarently a font of knowledge and not Brilliant

Social cuesIt is quite common that, when one person vomits, others nearby will become nauseated, particularly when smelling the vomit of others, often to the point of vomiting themselves. It is believed that this is an evolved trait among primates. Many primates in the wild will tend to browse for food in small groups. Should one member of the party react adversely to some ingested food, it may be advantageous (in a survival sense) for other members of the party also to vomit. This tendency in human populations has been observed at drinking parties, where excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages may result in a number of party members vomiting nearly simultaneously, this being triggered by the initial vomiting of a single member of the party. This phenomenon has been touched on in popular culture: Notorious instances appear in the films Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (1983) and Stand By Me[9](1986).

Intense vomiting in ayahuasca ceremonies is a common phenomenon. However, people who experience “la purga” after drinking ayahuasca, in general, regard the practice as both a physical and spiritual cleanse and often come to welcome it.[10] It has been suggested that the consistent emetic effects of ayahuasca — in addition to its many other therapeutic properties — was of medicinal benefit to indigenous peoples of the Amazon, in helping to clear parasites from the gastrointestinal system.[11]

There have also been documented cases of a single ill and vomiting individual inadvertently causing others to vomit, when they are especially fearful of also becoming ill, through a form of mass hysteria

  2. Jasper’s obsessed with all robots, sort of funny since his middle name was derived from the original Astro Boy series. He loves Transformers but I have to say that the new toys are just awful compared to the old ones. The ’80s Japanese robot toys are where it’s at, for sure. His favorite is huge, an old Mazinger. Part of me feels weird about letting the kids play with things that I used to hoard NIB but it’s amazing how that instinct has dissipated since having kids. I want them to PLAY with the toys.

    1. Naomi,

I have a bunch of NIB toys that are in the attic. I have to admit this shockwave toy is not that great. It has a few modes and it near impossible to re-transform. The best line that is out now is the Transformers Generations line, not just because it looks back at the old characters but because the transformations are great AND they also pay homage to the old characters.

  3. Nice photography i have browsed site and find nice photoghraph alongh with the details. Nice post I am looking forward for more up dates from you..
