Great Children’s Books for Moms and Dads

Books for Moms and Dads

Disney-Hyperion sent me a whole mess of great books for free to read and review. #ad This video is a preview of all of them as well as when they come out for sale.

I love reading to the kids. It is one of my most favorite things to do with them. It is a rare occasion, though when Andrew is up for a book even though I get a ton of them to read to him and many are really funny. He loves the silly and absurd. Of the books that I talk about in the video below I personally requested “Night, Night, Groot” because I love the Guardians of the Galaxy. The books i cute and funny with many other Marvel Super Heroes making cameos. Take a look at the video and then below that I have a list of each book and how to buy or pre-order them on amazon.com (with my affiliate links and prices lower than what I tell you in the video.)

A Bunch of Great Disney Hyperion Books and Fun at the Plaground

Photo-A-Day #4196

After school I took Andrew out for lunch. We were going to go to Tex Barry’s for some Coney Island Hot Dogs but we couldn’t find a parking spot so instead we went to Bliss Bros. Today was National Frappe day and I certainly wanted a Frappe but I didn’t end up getting one because I had already eaten plenty and Andrew got a bowl of ice cream with his meal that was more than enough to share.

After lunch we went over to the playground across the way. The main intention of that was to get Andrew tired out, he didn’t get tired. He used up his nap yesterday when it would have been better if he hadn’t. He was, however really good about playing quietly in his room so that I could shut my eyes for a while. I did not sleep well and was facing a 12 hour overnight shift after being up at 4am. Such is the glamorous life of being on a weekend overnight shift.

The other thing that I wanted to talk about today were the great books that I’ve been getting from Disney Hyperion to review. I get these books for free and then I talk about them, either on my vlogs or in blog posts. I give a complete breakdown of the great books on the vlog today and below the video are links to each of the books where you can buy them on Amazon.com using my affiliate code.

Review: The True Princess

Eva received the book, The True Princess for Christmas from my Aunt Donna. It is an excellent books with a very wonderful message. There is a religious vein to the book as the tag line of the book is “What makes someone a true princes in Jesus’ eyes?” The values of self reliance, humility, kindness and caring are universal values to teach our children and this book does so very well. The book was written bu Angela Elwell Hunt and the illustrations were done by Diana Magnuson.

The Story
A young princess is entrusted to the care of her father, the king’s servant Nana. The king had to leave the country for a while and to keep his princess safe the princess and Nana were disguised as bakers. While the princess had been used to a life of luxury she soon learned to be more self reliant and understand the roles of those who had the duties to care for her in her life as a princess. In the end she builds character and becomes a princess who is worthy of ruling.

The Illustrations
The illustrations are bright and beautiful. Very colorful and well drawn.

The Message
The message of learning to truly love yourself as well as others by being kind, caring, and humble is excellent. The princess learns to entertain herself and others, laugh and love. The true princess learns to serve others and in that she is elevated to her rightful place as a true princess.

Final Thoughts
This story is a nice read, there are many wonderful characters and moments for good reading. For me that means the option to use different voices and be different characters. Allison has been reading this to Eva often and she simply loves sitting there listening to the story and looking at the beautiful illustrations.
