Visiting La Salette Christmas Lights 2014

Photo-A-Day #3534

Today was a busy day. We did a bunch of our Christmas traditions all in one day. Andrew and I did play group in the morning and he napped in the afternoon, which was good because the day would be a long one. We went and got our tree, shopped for the rest of the Christmas is for Kids toys, visited La Salette and also had our yearly post-La Salette Bliss Bros. dinner.

Andrew and I headed over to Attleboro Farms to meet up with Allison and Eva and pick out our Christmas Tree. Eva wanted a Balsam because we stayed in The Balsams room at the Christmas Farm Inn. She really likes things that match up that way. We found a nice 6 foot Balsam for our house. We got a fresh cut on the tree and they tied the tree onto my roof rack. Statue at La Salette Shrine

Photo-A-Day #3525

I took Andrew with me to the La Salette Shrine last night to look at the lights. I also wanted to check out how the NX1 performed with photos there. I did pretty well on most shots but will take the tripod next time for some more artistic ones and some that will take advantage of the amazing lights that they have. I have to find a night to go on my own though. I was itching to take a ride over there last night and probably should have but got very lazy because of the lack of sleep. Maybe next Monday will work out.

the night was a little bit of a guys’ night, though. Andrew and I went to Tex Barry’s to get some hot dogs before going to La Salette. Then when we came home I got him ready for bed and he fell asleep watching a movie on Sprout. I thought that was a good thing until he woke up a bunch throughout the night. We’ve got to get his sleep under control.

Kindergarten Christmas Play 2013

Photo-A-Day #3176

Today was Eva’s Kindergarten Christmas Play. She was the angel and had two lines in the play. She did an excellent job in her role. Watching her up there confidently delivering her lines and smiling as she sang Christmas songs made me so proud to be her Dad. She practiced her lines every chance she got and she had them down cold.We were joined at the play by Grandfather and Mem, Auntie Tara and Shelby (cousin Dylan), Uncle Mike and my Grandparents.

After the play we visited a bit at my parent’s house. Andrew had a fun time, as usual. He received a set of mini books from his Great-Grandparents. He had fun lining them up and telling me what animals were on the covers. Continue reading Kindergarten Christmas Play 2013

La Salette Trip 2012

Photo-A-Day #2796

Tonight we went to La Salette to see the lights. We got there moments before they turned the lights on for the night. We’re making this an annual family trip. Luckily we are pretty much right around the corner so we can just hop in the car and get there for the lighting. So we can make that decision at the last minute which when you have two little ones is sometimes the only way to do things. Continue reading La Salette Trip 2012

New Year, New Traditions

Photo-A-Day #2459

Today kicked off 2012. We went to Church this morning and visited with Mem and Grandfather. Eva and Mem had breakfast and a walk while we visited. After that we headed home and I accomplished a bit of a task at the house. I cleaned out the garage so that I could get one car into the garage before it snows for the first time this Winter. Visit to La Salette

Visit to La Salette
Photo-A-Day #1365

Allison and I have lived in our home for quite a few years and every Christmas season I say that we should go to La Salette to look at the Christmas lights. La Salette is a shrine and they have this wonderful outdoor light display that starts on Thanksgiving and ends on Epiphany. This year we finally went. We bundled up Eva and took her to see all the lights. I took my camera and tripod to try some outdoor low light photos.

When I was very young I lived on the same street as the La Salette Shrine. I remember winters where I was watching the long line of cars go by the house on the nights when the lights were on. At that time there were no malls to speak of, no other entertainment really, so the place was always packed. It is funny remembering the place. I hadn’t been since High School. Your younger self remembers how big it was and your older self now sees that it wasn’t that big at all. You can walk around in an hour or so. I used to think that we were there forever, maybe because we were cold and there were so many people and we had to read all the signs. I am looking forward to Eva growing up and us having a tradition of going to La Salette for the lights and then dinner at Bliss Bros Dairy afterward.

Bliss Bros. Dairy was located diagonally across from our house and I always loved going there for ice cream. Tonight we started our tradition of going to La Salette and then to Bliss. Eva was, of course, a little charmer and she had little boys come up and wave to her. I am in for many sleepless nights as she gets older. I took a few photos of our walk around La Salette, they even added a carousel and fried dough. We didn’t get that but we did make sure we got hot chocolate and hot cider, not in the light up La Salette mug though. That was kind of tacky and I never ever, ever need a mug again in my life! We have way too many so note to all, no mugs, ever. Here are my photos tagged with La Salette on Flickr.
