Eva learned about Columbus Day at school and she made this little poster of the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. It’s great that Eva made this it jogged my memory this morning when King Richard’s Faire had a contest for tickets and I won some. I will also have some to give away, too. Blu-ray Review: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial 30th Anniversary Edition
On Wednesday night last week Allison and I had cleared out our DVR and we decided that it was a good night to watch E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. I had received a copy of it on Blu-ray to review. The movie arrives in stores on October 9th for the first time on Blu-ray. It was fun to see this movie again because it was such a big movie when I was a kid. When you think of great Spielberg movies E.T. is one of the tops because of the capture of wonder, emotion and heart in this movie.
In High School one of my teachers used this movie to teach about unconditional love. We studied the movie and all the aspects of how love was portrayed. It was one of the first times that I really looked at some of the deeper themes of a movie and have always remembered E.T. for that reason.
I really want to share the movie with Eva but she is just so sensitive and there are part of the movie that I think will really scare her. I remember as a kid that I got scared right off the bat when Elliot throws the baseball into the shed and it gets thrown back at him. Maybe it was the fog and the fact that Elliot freaks out and runs into the house that made me nervous and scared. I don’t know exactly what it is but I can anticipate that Eva would be afraid of E.T. probably up until the point when Gertie teaches E.T. to talk. I know that Eva will love Gertie. She might like this little clip below.
What I think will make her most upset is seeing E.T. dying. To see the sadness in the family as they experience E.T. dying and especially when Gertie sees the doctors using the crash cart paddles on E.T. may be tough for her to watch. I watched some of the DVD extras and listening to Drew Barrymore speak about being in that scene and how she really thought E.T. was being hurt made her reaction so raw and real that she physically jumped when the paddles were used. That, I think will make Eva most upset, so I think we’ll hold off for a little while longer before she sees the movie. Continue reading Blu-ray Review: E.T.
