Photo-A-Day #4561
I leave for the Thor Ragnarok trip tomorrow morning. That means that I’ll be away for Eva’s birthday. So, I took the night off work and we took Eva and Andrew to Shelburne Farms. We decided upon that place because we haven’t been apple picking yet this year and there are some great things to do at the farm. They have a bounce house, some go karts, a hay maze and some animals as well as a 1974 John Deere Combine that was turned into a play area.
We enjoyed some apple cider donuts and apple cider. Then we wandered the grounds and made our way to the play areas. It had rained earlier in the day so everything all day was a bit damp. We were lucky, though, that the rain happened early. The crowds were light and the picking was interesting.
Apparently there was a big hail storm and the apples all got dinged up pretty good. I cannot believe how much hail happened. This made for an a bit of a scavenger hunt. We had to really look and search and find the very best apples that we could find. Andrew and Eva did an excellent job finding as many apples as they could. We walked all over looking on each tree for the least dinged up ones. We finished up with a hay ride and some more play on the combine.
Thee was also a large straw pyramid.
For dinner I took the family to the newly opened SmashBurger. This is one of my favorite restaurants. They have great fried pickles and burgers there. We also split some onion straws, fries and sweet potato fries. I also introduced the family to Smash Sauce. Everyone loved it.
