Today I left Park City Utah and the Evolution of Women in Social Media conference. I slept in as much as I could but my body gets me up at 6:00am no matter what. So I was awake and I decided ot start going through all the photos that I uploaded to Flickr the night before and write up each one with links to my Evo’10 posts. It really helped to identify people by shooting their nametags after I took their photo with EvaBear. I will certainly look to do that at future conferences.
As I was working on that I saw a tweet by Nirasha (@Mommyniri) stating that she was deciding whether or not to venture out. I sent a reply stating that I was working on my photos and would be around, so she said why don’t we grab some coffee. I finished up as many photos as I could (still have a couple hundred to go through) and added them to the Evo’10 Conference Flickr group. I then headed up the hill to catch up with @MommyNiri. |

But before I left my room I had to pack. I had to condense all the swag and gifts that I recieved down to my two bags.
This is the before.

There is no way this is all going home with me.
And this is the after
From Evo'10 |
Yes, I am a packing savant.
I checked out and got the car and walked up the hill. As I was packing I found the receipt from my MacBook. The Protocol Institute had supplied me with that and so I folded it up and put it in my back pocket because I was going to stop at the Apple Store later. On the walk up the hill or to the car or somewhere along the way I lost it. So frustrated at myself for losing that. More on that later.
I got up the hill and went into the cafe and there was Rachel, Jyl, Amy, Haley, Niri and Laura. Aimee and Stephanie S arrived later. I sat down with them and we chatted about the weekend and how much fun we had. Jyl and Rachel were hitting the spa down at the Waldorf for a much deserved spa day. And more power to them because they deserve such accolades for putting on such a well executed conference. For a first time ever conference it went so smoothly and that is because of all the attention to detail that Jyl and Rachel and their team did. I am so glad that I was part of this first event.
After talking with the women at the cafe I headed to Salt Lake City to the Apple Store. My intention was to go and see if it was possible to exchange the MacBook for two 32GB Wireless iPads so that Allison and I could both have one and we could play the iPad games with Eva. I lost the receipt and so they could not verify the price that was paid for the MacBook. I just said that they could go off the baseline of $999 and I’d pay the difference from that price. They had no iPads and my genius there didn’t seem to think that a trade would work. I was nervous because the box is totally sealed and if I opened it I could not get the 3 year applecare extended warranty. I was afraid I would have to open the box at the airport to go through security. So I bought the Applecare warranty and the box did not have to be opened. I just laid the whole box in a bin and sent it through, no worries. When I got my receipt for my Applecare purchase I did relay the whole story in the comments, so who knows. I’m not going to open the Macbook in case I hear from them.
Then I went to the airport. I checked one of my bags because I had three items in my hands. Yes, I am a stickler for the 12 items or less aisle, too. As I said before I put the Macbook in the sealed box in a bin and right through the xray. I went up to the restaurant and ran into Aimee (@greeblemonkey) and Jessica (@Mommysgonecity). I joined them for lunch and Aimee had to get to her plane and Jessica was on the same flight as me, so I had a long conversation with Jessica about all things blog related. I was really happy to have that time to spend with someone that I had connected with and who was fun to talk too.
We made our way to our gate and I called home to talk with Allison. While I was talking I ran into Haley (@PrincessHaley) and we had a nice conversation before she got on her flight. I’m so going to miss everyone tomorrow when I get home.
Getting home was tricky, Chicago has had crazy weather so my flight, which was already a late one was delayed by 40 minutes and that meant that instead of arriving at 1:20 and getting home around 2:00am I arrived at 3:00am and got home after 3:30am. Long day, long long day but luckily I was still on a high from the awesome weekend that I had and the great people that I met while at the Evolution of Women in Social Media Conference.
Really you had he receipt? Ugggg well atleast you got the warranty (that I’m sure you’ll put to good use) see bout getting that extra ram for your photo editing 🙂
Adam,
I contacted Laura from TPI to see about getting a copy of that receipt so that I could try again at my local apple store. I haven’t opened everything. I think an iPad would fit our lives better though. But if that doesn’t work out then I will not be sneezing at the awesomeness of having my own MacBook.
Nice packing job!
Deborah,
Thank you, I take my trip packing seriously. Everything arrived safely, too.
You are one awesome guy! I enjoyed your panel and your sensitive nature, AND the fact that I was not the only one who woke up rediculously early every single morning. It was 5am for me.
Thank you so much Lu,
We never got an EvaBear Photo with you. 🙁 I looked through all my photos and saw that there were many people I still didn’t get to have EvaBear Photos with. I wish we had gotten one. Sorry.
Thank you very much for your kind words about the panel. I’m working on getting that posted today so anyone who didn’t attend can still see it. I hope it came out okay.
I LOVED the EveBear. What a great conversation starter as well, and the idea of taking pictures of nametags? Brilliant!!! Of course it would have been a good Idea simply to get my camera out…
Ashlee,
I’m glad that people liked EvaBear, it was so much fun to meet everyone and get photos. People loved her and it made for good conversation. The name tags were key too. Without doing that I would have been so lost. As it is I have 4 random business cards of people I did not meet or get a photo of. The photos will also be very helpful for me when I follow up with everyone that I met, but that starts next week. I don’t know about you but I need some time to regroup before I start reaching out to all the great people that I met.
