Photo-A-Day #2066

Today was a good day. It started off with me getting some work done and a post completed for a guest spot over at Blog World Expo. For the next week weeks, and last week, I was asked to write a few posts that had to do with creating content around certain topics. The first one was just about creating content but the second I think was much better crafted. It is all about food and creating content for your blog focused on food. That goes up Monday.

After that I had an excellent call with four great guys. Together we have created a new blog and podcast called Road To Thin. Each of us is significantly overweight with 50-75+ pounds to lose. Our first podcast focused on where we are right now and how we got to that point. Some of us have health issues like type II diabetes (me), back pain, high blood pressure and other things that have to do with being overweight.

The Four guys are Donny “DaddyClaxton” Claxton of DaddyClaxton.com, P.J. Mullen of Real Men Drive Minivans, Daniel M. Clark of QAQN and my co-host for Geek Dads Weekly as well as the organizer of Road to Thin, the man behind the idea Kevin Metzger of The DADvocate. We are going to help and support each other as we work on becoming more healthy in our lives. I’m happy to finally be able to talk about this project. My first contribution to the site will be Tuesday.

Today was also a good day because it was time once again for Christmas is for Kids. Ever since IZEA hooked me up with the Grant a Wish program through Sears a couple of years back We’ve decided as a family that we would save money each month so that we could do our own shopping spree of toys for Christmas is for kids. We do this now as an annual family event. We saved enough to get six really decent toys. Among them were toys like Disney Princesses dolls (Eva picked out) and a Road Rippers Monster Truck that has lights and sounds and does wheelies (my choice because of the great sponsor Toy State has been to me in the past. I decided to by that truck.) and some PlayDoh and more.

We brought the toys down to the Toy Drive location that was put on by Achin’s Garage. My friend, Sarah Achin, agreed to do a little interview with me at the event. Here’s our interview.

It was windier than I thought. Oh well. Next year my setup will be even better. We have 12 months to save again.

The thing that I found has worked well for us is just putting aside $5 – $10 a month, with $60 – $120 you can buy some decent toys to help kids out. It is something that we’ve been committed to for the past few years and have found that it is a great thing to teach Eva. She is starting to understand why we do this. She marched right over to the big blue tarp and put down the toys. Then she marched over to Wally The Green Monster and got her photo taken with him. She’s a character, but she is ours. Tonight Allison went out so Eva and I read a bunch of books and I even got to record a Read to Me, Dad book review that I need to process. So that is enough for tonight.
