Today Allison, Eva, Marcia, Dan and I met up with Maureen to go to SeaWorld. I don’t think I have been to Sea World since I was about 10 years old. So much has changed within the park. The one constant has been Shamu. And apparently Shamu has been busy because I can remember when the first baby Shamu was born. Since that time there have been about 23 others. We learned all about this because there was about a 20 minute period where the whales were having their own thing going on in the back pools. The trainer was able to give us tons of great information.
The new show that they have in the park is called Believe and it is a pretty amazing show. I was poised to shot as much as I could with my Telephoto lens. The little girl in front of me was poised to block me as much as possible. I totally missed a fantastic shot because of timing. Well, now that I look at it I missed it because the hyper kid in front of me decided that that was when she was going to point out that there was a crane on the upper catwalk above the Shamu Pool.
I feel like I just made one of those ads for Canon cameras that show photos one second before or after famous shots.
We had a very nice day all around. We saw some good shows and some fun things. Spending time with Mo was also a treat. We hadn’t seen her since she moved to Florida.
Eva was great at the park all day long as well. I took tons of photos but need some time to process all of them. I’ll have them up as soon as I get some time.

That’s so fantastic, I love dolphins and orcas, they are my favorite creatures ever. Its always been a dream of mine to swim with them or at the least go to seaworld to view them with my own eyes.

I feel for you. It’s tough taking pictures at a touristy place. I’ve had my share of hands and heads in my pictures too. Glad you were able to catch that great shot of the orca spraying water in all directions. You’re smart not to get a front row seat and get all wet.

Drew, if you were 10 years old the last time you went to Sea World I must have been a 34. Gee about the age you are now. Like Kenny Chesney sings “Don’t blink.”
It was soooo fun!! I loved seeing you guys again!! I’ll have my pictures up on flickr later:) Eva is a doll and it was great to see you guys in full parent mode…you do an excellent job.
PS-Tell Eva I said thanks for falling asleep and allowing me to babysit…and at the same time avoid the shark tank!!

I love seeing them and the shows are very fun. We didn’t see the dolphin show however. I really would have liked to have seen that show too but the times didn’t jibe. You had to criss cross across the park to really get a look at everything. Very tough with a little one in tow.

I had all my camera equipment with me. The whole first section (20-30 rows) were soaked. That whale can sure displace some water. What I would have done was watch the show first then go back with the cameras and know when everything that was going to happen so I could anticipate shots better.
Dad,
You have a habit of putting things into perspective here on this blog. I remember those trips as kids as so much fun. I need to find my photos from those trips, the ones I used to take with my Kodak Disc camera.
As far as Sea World is concerned. You would not even recognize the place these days. For one thing there are a ton of killer whales and so many more people. Many more people.

Thanks for the compliment on our parenting skills. Eva is a doll and we love her so much. I figured that the shark tank wasn’t your favorite. I think I read that somewhere.
Wow, what an awesome picture of the Orca spraying the audience! We went to the one in Ohio and it was wild to watch them perform. Kind of a mixed emotion there, wish they were free, yet enjoyed the show. Great talent you have for photography!

Thanks. I was really lucky to catch that shot. I had seen a few jumps and then saw the windmill spray. That was pretty amazing. I posted the rest of my photos on Flickr.

I haven’t been to Sea World in so long! We used to go all the time when I was a kid. Maybe I’ll try to take the boys this summer, I always really enjoyed it there.
