I was very excited to watch The Disney Channel Original Movie, Disney Descendants, with my daughter Eva. She will be eight in October and she has just started to get into many of The Disney Channel shows. So, she was familiar with the actors and actresses who would be in the movie. I saw the toys and Disney Descendants Villain Kids Dolls while at Toy Fair and I knew that she would love to play with them. Eva has an incredible personal sense of style. She loves to draw and create fashions using all sorts of creative apps. And then for herself she puts together all sorts of fun outfits.
So, when I was picking up some Disney Descendants items at Walmart I made sure that I picked the Evie fashion doll for Eva. I knew that she would take to that doll most of all because of Evie’s style. While Mal is the main heroine (hmm, can a villain be a heroine? Or would she be an Anti-Hero?) Eva is more like the character of Evie. She is very much about her own creativity and style. Eva was so excited to play with this doll that she studied it and asked Allison to do her hair like Evie’s hair. She even had her make a special braid that went across her forehead like the doll.
In the song, “Evil Like Me”, we see Maleficent singing her hopes and dreams for her daughter Mal. While she wants Mal to be evil like her the song is about how parents want their kids to grow up with their own values. Parenting is about instilling your personal values through your words and actions and raising your kids to have those same values.
Being a villain and raising a child must be interesting. I guess that instead of making sure that your child doesn’t touch every blessed thing in a store you just let them run rampant and encourage things like opening food and eating while in the store and also pocketing things that you want. Pretty much the opposite of what a responsible parent would do. A villain parent would probably be disappointed if their child walked calmly beside them through the aisles. If the store wasn’t a flaming wreck after they came through then it wasn’t a good day out.
If I could be a descendant of one of the Disney Villains, I’d probably pick Shere Khan. Sure he is a tiger but he has such a cool demeanor. Nothing rattles the guy. I recall him not only from The Jungle Book but also Talespin. In Talespin he was a rich mogul of Khan Industries so being the son of this wealthy suave tiger would be cool. I wouldn’t need a super power or anything because I’d have some incredible confidence and influence over the other kids at Auradon Prep.
But back to Disney Descendants and Evie. Evie is actually a smart character and she hides her smarts to try and impress the princes. Luckily she learns the importance of being herself and that princes come in many forms. They could even be the son of Dopey. That is something that I want my daughter to take away from the movie, that people aren’t always what they seem and so you need to get to know who they really are underneath. People who could appear rotten and bad may have goodness deep inside of them and those who look perfect on the outside could be as shallow as a puddle and crueler than any villain.
We’ve watched Disney Descendants a number of times now. Eva watched the movie when it premiered on July 31st on The Disney Channel. I knew it was going to be something she really liked, so I was happy to be able to get her the DVD. Eva was very excited for the charm bracelet that was inside the package. It went great with her whole Evie costume. The songs in the movie are very catchy and both kids have been singing the songs all around the house. The first thing that I did with the Disney Descendants Soundtrack was put it onto Eva’s tablet so that she could listen and enjoy it at any time.
So, if you were one of the Disney Descendants, which one would you be? Would you be one of the four from the movie or someone else? The movie looks like it will continue with another one at some point; who would you like to see in the future of Disney Descendants?
My favorite Disney movie is The Jungle Book! Shere Khan is SOOO suave. I loved Evie too, she was a great character in the movie. Eva’s hair looks amazing and I love her style! #client
Thanks very much Summer. Eva enjoyed this movie so much.
