Laser Maze Jr.

We received a copy of Laser Maze Jr. from ThinkFun to play with and review. Opinions of the toy are 100% our own. If you have a young puzzler in your house then this is great for their Christmas gift list.

I was planning on playing this game with the kids last week when we were on our thanksgiving vacation but I didn’t open it before the trip and so didn’t put in the two AAA batteries. So, today I put the batteries into the game. Andrew and I went through the the easy and the medium puzzles together. I then tried the last one of the puzzles in the game and I found it pretty challenging myself. Andrew wanted to help with that one and he did. I liked how he began to pick up the way the game worked right away.

The great thing about this game, which is rated for six and up, is that the game can still be played by my four year old son. I was able to teach Andrew a bit about how light and lasers work. We were also able to talk a bit about angles and mirrors. Of course, I had to keep reminding him not to stick his fingers directly onto the mirrors. I got a bit frustrated after the millionth time telling him this but it was still fun overall.

When Eva came home she wanted to play as well. She’s eight and she also enjoys puzzles. She really wanted to play the game over our little vacation and she was happy that I got it ready for her. I gave her a little bit of instruction and she was off and running. She did a couple of easy ones and then wanted to tackle a hard one. I think that she probably should have gone through each of them in order. We’ll try again tomorrow because she really wants to get this and solve the puzzles.

The best thing about playing the game with the kids was when they solved a puzzle on their own. They just lit up like the targets. Andrew even jumped around and wanted some high-fives.
