Review: Don’t Rock the Boat

The Kids Rocking the Boat
Photo-A-Day #4746

We received the new game from PlayMonster for free to play with and review. Opinions are our own. We also have an amazon affiliate link for you to use to buy your own.

If yo are looking for a quick game with a lot of laughs then PlayMonster’s Don’t Rock the Boat is that game. It is super simple to set up and play and you can play about a dozen times in 5 minutes. The game goes especially quick with kids because they just drop the figures onto the boat and ultimately rock it and spill all the pieces off the boat.

The rules are super simple, too:

  1. Youngest player goes first
  2. Player picks a piece and puts it onto the ship
  3. Players keep repeating this until someone knocks a piece off the ship
  4. The last player to successfully place a piece on the ship without knocking anything off wins
Here was our gameplay and video review. The kids liked making up silly names for the cute penguin pieces.

Can You Use SuperChargers Vehicles in Skylanders Imaginators for the Nintendo Switch

Skylanders SuperChargers Vehicles on Nintendo Switch
Photo-A-Day #4348

I’ve been playing a bunch of Skylanders Imaginators on the Nintendo Switch. This morning I loaded a bunch of my Imaginators Senseis, Creation Crystals and Imaginators Villains into the game. I learned that you have to actually load them in twice so that they can be accessed at anytime. I do not know how many I can actually load into the game but eventually I will try and do all 300+ Skylanders to see how many can actually be permanently loaded.

All reports prior to getting Skylanders Imaginators for the Nintendo Switch tell me that you cannot use the Skylanders SuperChargers vehicles. There is no racing in the game, but you can certainly load in the vehicles and what’s more they give you an imaginite chest. This is different than the Wii U version. On the Wii U version I can scan the vehicle and it becomes available to use in the racing portion of the game. No racing portion, no reason to even load them, right? However, I learned that you should load them to get imaginite items. So far I’ve loaded in two of them and they got a couple of imaginite chests. You can see how that works in the video below.

Pie Face Showdown – Father vs Son Edition!

Pie Face Showdown - Father and Son

Hasbro sent us the new Pie Face Showdown for free to play with and review. This is part of my #PlayLikeHasbro series. We had a great time and opinions are our own.

Smacking someone in the face with a shipped cream pie is as hilarious now as it always was. Now Hasbro has a few different versions of their popular game Pie Face. We checked out Pie Face Showdown where you go head to head with a family member, friend or rival. Each person taps their side of the game and that moves the hand towards their opponent. Whoever gets their hand over to their rival first ends up launching a handful of whipped cream in their face.Andrew and I had so much fun messing around with this game, especially covering each other’s faces with Whipped Cream. Lots of laughs with this game. You can see in our video below.

Review: Laser Maze Jr. from ThinkFun

Laser Maze Jr.

We received a copy of Laser Maze Jr. from ThinkFun to play with and review. Opinions of the toy are 100% our own. If you have a young puzzler in your house then this is great for their Christmas gift list.

I was planning on playing this game with the kids last week when we were on our thanksgiving vacation but I didn’t open it before the trip and so didn’t put in the two AAA batteries. So, today I put the batteries into the game. Andrew and I went through the the easy and the medium puzzles together. I then tried the last one of the puzzles in the game and I found it pretty challenging myself. Andrew wanted to help with that one and he did. I liked how he began to pick up the way the game worked right away.

The great thing about this game, which is rated for six and up, is that the game can still be played by my four year old son. I was able to teach Andrew a bit about how light and lasers work. We were also able to talk a bit about angles and mirrors. Of course, I had to keep reminding him not to stick his fingers directly onto the mirrors. I got a bit frustrated after the millionth time telling him this but it was still fun overall. Continue reading Review: Laser Maze Jr. from ThinkFun

#YesMemory PhotoADay Challenge: Blurry

Photo-A-Day #2890

After having been cooped up in the house for the week I went stir crazy today and spent over 2 hours meticulously cleaning the living room. I haven’t been out of the room other than to sleep or hit the bathroom for the week and the clutter and mess just got me crazed. Allison took Eva to PT early and then to school and errands. I put Andrew to bed after I folded the laundry and he “helped” me. Then I tore apart the living room and put everything, everything back where it belongs and thinned out the toy herd as well. It made me feel a little better. Still sick but at least not losing my mind.

Challenge Your Brain With ThinkFun’s Solitaire Chess

Solitaire Chess

I’ve been spending a lot of time testing out and playing with different apps on my iPad. I was recently given a download code for Think Fun’s newest app called Solitaire Chess. This is a great combination of two fun and challenging games. The overall point of the game is to leave one figure on the board. The game starts of pretty easy where you have three pieces on the board and it is simple to solve the puzzle. There are four levels of play on this app as well. Each level has 100 boards to play. That is over 400 challenging game boards to complete. I am only 50 boards into the easy boards and loving it.

Solitaire Chess works perfectly on the iPad. Easy finger swipes to move the pieces around. If you hold your finger on the piece than you can see all possible moves that it makes. So, if you are not a chess player you can pick up this game very easily. I like how this game gives you a a few moments to yourself to challenge your brain. The game has allowed me to shut off the outside world for a moment and take the time to challenge that problem solving part of my brain. Thinking out moves ahead helps with your planning skills. I’m no expert on the benefits of chess but there are some great articles to read on the ThinkFun site about the benefits of chess.

I enjoy the game very much and I will likely have some download codes to give away to interested parties. The app works on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. You can also get the game in the Android market.

Disclosure: I was given the download code for this app from ThinkFun. The opinions of the game are 100% mine. Please read the official press release on the game below. Continue reading Challenge Your Brain With ThinkFun’s Solitaire Chess
