Review: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for Nintendo Switch

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze

The photo above is from almost exactly two years ago. The whole family went to a special Nintendo 3DS night. While we were there I won a New 3DS XL and a bunch of games. One of the games was Donkey Kong Country. Well, a couple of weeks ago I was sent a copy of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for the Nintendo Switch by Nintendo . They sent us a free copy to play with and review. Here is what we thought.

Nintendo Switch Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - Funky Kong

The first time I played Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze on the Nintendo switch I played in Funky Mode with Funky Kong. This is a character playable in this version of the game. He’s has not been a playable character in a main Donkey Kong Country game before and he’s a fun character to use. Funky Kong as a playable character was introduced to make the game more accessible and a bit easier for the causal player. He is pretty overpowered in that he doesn’t get hurt by spikes, he can double jump and he can breath underwater indefinitely. So, he was a great character to try out right away because I was able to learn all the moves of the game and get comfortable before playing with a character like Donkey Kong who only has 2 hearts and cannot do all that Funky can do, without help. You can see a bit about the storyline and some gameplay int he trailer below.

Review: Don’t Rock the Boat

The Kids Rocking the Boat
Photo-A-Day #4746

We received the new game from PlayMonster for free to play with and review. Opinions are our own. We also have an amazon affiliate link for you to use to buy your own.

If yo are looking for a quick game with a lot of laughs then PlayMonster’s Don’t Rock the Boat is that game. It is super simple to set up and play and you can play about a dozen times in 5 minutes. The game goes especially quick with kids because they just drop the figures onto the boat and ultimately rock it and spill all the pieces off the boat.

The rules are super simple, too:

  1. Youngest player goes first
  2. Player picks a piece and puts it onto the ship
  3. Players keep repeating this until someone knocks a piece off the ship
  4. The last player to successfully place a piece on the ship without knocking anything off wins
Here was our gameplay and video review. The kids liked making up silly names for the cute penguin pieces.

Review: MAX TRAXXX Tracer Racers Infinity Loop Set Is Crazy Fun

Tracer Racers
Photo-A-Day #4626

We received the MAX TRAXXX Infinity Loop Set for free to play with and review. These are our honest opinions. We also have a link to buy this set and others through our Amazon.com affiliate link at the end of this review.

When I was a kid I had a race track set. It was that hard plastic that snapped together and the cars sat on the trace with a little pin that fit into the slot of the car’s track. You used these trigger remotes to make the cars go. You could also make the track into a couple of different designs but the best was always the crazy eight. My track did not have a loop but I loved playing with the cars. You had to have some skill, however or the cars would go flying off the track at high speeds. I don’t think I’ve been able to find a car racing set that doesn’t do that. But that is okay, crashes are a bit of the fun. R/C Car racing has come a long way in that time and now with the MAX TRAXXX Tracer Racers from Skullduggery, Inc. you can have incredible looking night races!

The set that we received to review is the Max Traxxx R/C Award Winning Tracer Racers High Speed Remote Control Infinity Loop Track Set, which has been Skullduggery’s #1 Amazon product! It retails for $119.97 ad is for ages 6 and up. There are many great features to this set and I want to highlight a few of them for you. I have mentioned them in our video below which I hope that you watch.

Eva Found her Calling

Eva in a Bobcat
Photo-A-Day #4526

Today we went over to my friend Sarah’s house. She does a big end of the Summer party. There is food and also music. Last year there was a live band. This year it rained so no live band but they still had a great inflatable water slide. The kids had a great time sliding down over and over again. Even though it was cold, wet and rainy, they did not care, they had such fun.

There was also a Bobcat on site and it was open so the kids were able to climb into it and sit and pretend. This was Eva’s face the second she got into the cab. I had to wait till I was over 21 to get into the cab of one of these type machines. I was surprisingly good at it too, I credit video games to that.

Silly Morning Pigpile

Silly Pigpile
Photo-A-Day #4496

The kids are having fun being around their cousins. They all get so excited to see each other and are having fun at the beach and around the house. This morning Eva and Andrew were watching Voltron Season 3 with me before I headed home to get ready to head to work tonight. Eva was really into watching the show and we watched two episodes before the cousins arrived. When they did everyone started playing with the Voltron toys that I picked up on clearance at Target. Everyone was running all around the house being silly. The next thing I know, the kids are pig piling on each other. We stopped that and went onto the porch where the silliness continued.

We took a walk tot he duck pond before I headed home. The kids kept talking about a mean goose that chased them last time. Luckily it did not chase them this time. Continue reading Silly Morning Pigpile

Review – Zimpli Kids Slime Baff

Zimpli Kids Slime Baff
Photo-A-Day #4426

This is a review of Zimpli Kids, Slime Baff. We received this for free to try out and review. Opinions are our own.

Andrew and I had some time together today and we decided that it was a great day to play with Slime Baff from Zimpli Kids. Andrew needed a tubby and we had the time so why not try out this fun craze. Apparently there are over 2 Billion views of Slime Baff YouTube Videos. We have not seen even a fraction of a percent of those numbers but I’m sure that we’ll just explode any day now.

I’m thinking that I may have put too much water into the bathtub so it wasn’t as thick and slime-like as it could have been. It certainly did turn a bit thicker and it was slimy, it was really slippery. I had to keep telling Andrew to sit down in the tub and not to try and stand up. He was slipping and sliding all over the place. He had a lot of fun, though. Next time I will hav eto figure out better lighting. Here is some information about Slime Baff that was provided to us from Zimpli Kids:

4 x Slime Baff (Enough to turn 80 litres of water to Slime) Add our sachets of Slime powder into your bath to turn it into Gooey Slime! Once you have finished with the slime, simply add more water for the Slime to turn it back into (coloured) water.

Our products are 100% safe of skin, non toxic, stain free and environmentally friendly which means they can be drained away and disposed of easily!

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild Secrets Revealed

Sunrise in Hyrule

It is no secret that I absolutely love The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I’ve been playing it every day and running all over Hyrule. There are many great parts to the game. One thing that I have been having fun discovering has been the sunrises and sunsets all around Hyrule. I capture many of them with the screen capture button on the Switch itself. The world is so expansive and beautiful. I enjoy just walking around. But, what went into making this game and how long did it take. There are so many questions to answer and these three videos do a really nice job talking about the game and its creation. There may be some minor spoilers but nothing too major, it is mostly about what was done to make this epic game that so many have discovered and loved.

How does the world of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild relate to Kyoto? Where did the game’s musical inspiration come from? How were the sound effects for Link’s footsteps created? Which time period in Japanese history inspired the Sheikah Slate? All of these intriguing questions will be answered in this developer video series.

You can view them all here:

Episode #2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLMGrmf4xaY

Enjoy! And after you are done watching, get back to playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You have a world to save!

A Free Preview of Splatoon 2 on the Nintendo Switch – YES PLEASE!!

Splatoon 2

I think that Splatoon was one of the only games that my son could pick up immediately and play on the Nintendo Wii U. He took to the game so naturally and I hardly had to guide him in anything. Well, I took my meager work bonus and set aside money to pre-order a Nintendo Switch. I’m not sure about affording many games yet but one we will definitely be getting will be Splatoon 2. I’m excited for the Free Preview weekend that is coming so that we can play the game before we buy it. You can read all about it below. But first check out the preview of the game from the Switch presentation. It looks awesome!
