Review: Razor Jr. Monster Kix

Photo-A-Day #3497

I received a big package from Razor the other day containing two scooters. Since I haven’t had a moment to spend with Eva outside in that time I decided to put together the Razor Jr. Monster Kix scooter for Andrew and take him out for his first time on a scooter. Opinions of the scooter are 100% my own.

Having an (almost) three year-old and a seven year-old can get tricky in the toy department. Andrew wants to try out everything that his big sister is using and that included her Razor Scooter. Andrew wants to do the things that his sister is doing but he’s not physically able to do some things because of his age, height and skill level. I am pleased that the Razor Jr. Monster Kix scooter was perfectly made for a three year old just learning to balance and scoot around.

I took Andrew to a local park that has a huge wide open area for play on scooters and other wheeled toys. I set him up with one of Eva’s old helmets and let him go to it. He was a little tentative at first and wasn’t quite understanding his foot placement but I gave him a little instruction and he was off. One of the important things about the Monster Kix scooter is that Tilt-To-Turn feature. toddlers learn to steer by gently titling the way they want to turn. With the two wheels in front the scooter is very stable and the turning radius is wide. Kids are not going to make a sharp turn with this scooter. Giving them better stability means that they are going to stay upright.

The scooter needed to be assembled. All of the parts that were needed to assemble the Monster Kix were included. There were two allen wrenches and one had a Philips head on one end to screw in the screws. I had to attach the handlebars to the main shaft and then attach that to the front wheels and attach it all to the deck. I did it incorrectly the first time and had to take it apart and do it again. I installed the shaft backwards. But it was solid once I put it together and I can see this toy going from Andrew to his cousins once his skill level improves and he grows out of it.

One other thing that I’ll mention is the Monster hands on the scooter. Not only are they super cute for Andrew but they show him exactly where to hold onto his scooter. The scooters are intuitive enough as is but adding these hands gave it greater ease of use. I was very pleased with this toy and look forward to taking Andrew out on many more excursions.
