Spring Break Entertainment for Kids

This post brought to you on behalf of Pley.

Completing the LEGO Friends cafe

April vacation is coming soon and with it are vacations, stay-cations and more. But what if you are not going anywhere. When you are not going on vacation or hanging out somewhere fun you are going to be facing some bored kids. Questions of “What are we going to do today?” or whining statements of “There’s nothing to do!”. This can make a one week school break a very difficult undertaking. So, you will need to have a plan to keep the kids entertained and active. That plan does not have to solely involve screen time. Some is good but there is so much to do with this time off. I’ve compiled a list of a few things that we do in our house to make these days fun for the kids.

Ideas for Spring Break Entertainment for Kids

  • Get outside and nature hike
  • Have a theme day (LEGO, Arts, Music and more)
  • Family Photo Session
  • Plant a garden
  • Donation day

Get outside and Nature Hike

Near us, and probably you, there are nature areas. We are fortunate to live in New England where the weather can be nice and temperate in early Spring. Make sure that you do some research online to find nature areas near you. We have many Audubon Society areas near us. Two are less than a mile away. We can search the site to see what birds, plants and animals may be found and create checklists or Bingo cards for the kids. This will keep the kids engaged as they travel the path with you. Take plenty of photos to put together a Spring Break scrapbook, either digital or physical.

Have a Theme Day

We recently had a LEGO theme day and that is a day that where Pley can help. Pley had 400+ LEGO sets and these include sets from Star Wars, Ninjago, Super Heroes and much more. So if you plan out a Star Wars Day you can do things like a Light Saber duel, Trivia Quiz, Movie night, special themed foods and a family build of one of the larger Star Wars LEGO sets. Pley even has the App enabled BB-8 toy. You can get that from Pley and build a BB-8 obstacle course!

Family Photo Session

We are a photo friendly family. Taking Photo Walks is a fun thing that we like to do together. My daughter has had a camera in her hands since she was 2 years old. She’s enjoyed taking photos so much so I gave her one of my Samsung cameras when I was part of the Imagelogger program. She knows how to use a camera properly. However, if your children do not know how to use a camera this type of day would be perfect for teaching them the basics. Kids have a unique perspective on the world and to capture that in photos is a fun way for the family to bond. You could have each family member take turns as the subject and each family member take a turn as the photographer. Each person will capture what they see in each family member. Then make up some popcorn and have some fun viewing the photos on the TV.

Plant a Garden

If you don’t have a spot for a garden then you can try planting in pots or other containers. Having kids involved in growing some of their own food gives them a better connection to that food. It also gets them outside and doing something good for the Earth.

Donation Day

In pasts posts I have talked about taking care of clutter and how to keep toys organized. While Pley is a great service for saving money and having access to tons of toys we all still have our own toys in the house and each year it is a good idea to go through them and decide on a few to give away. There are plenty of places that will take used toys. Some need them desperately. Search for those in your area and gather up the ones that the kids do not want or have outgrown and donate them. You’ll be doing good at the same time as bringing a benefit to your own house.

Key benefits of Pley:

▪ Pley offers access to a large selection of educative toys, including 400+ LEGO sets and popular robotics toys. More toys are being launched in the next few months. Stay tuned for updates!
▪ Pley is always on the hunt for the best toys, so our assortment reflects the latest and greatest toys
▪ All these toys come at a low price point vs. buying toys. Average members save ~$800/year.
▪ It’s really convenient and helps reduce clutter: Pley packages get delivered to your door and when the kids are done playing, they can return them for a new toy. No more toys sitting unused on shelves!
* The savings in plastic alone from reduced purchases amounts to at least 240lbs fewer C02 emissions per annum per Pley member. And while the Pley business model relies heavily on shipping, we usually take advantage of trucks already on the road. If anything, our shipments are smaller than the typical Amazon package for the same LEGO set (Pley re-package them in smaller bags). Also, Pley helps reduce CO2 emissions from cars going to malls/stores to buy toys.
▪ Besides having access to a variety of toys, kids learn the concepts of sharing and reducing waste for the environment.
▪ Pley makes a fantastic gift! Shoppers can either gift unlimited subscriptions or gift cards!
